Holy. Smokes. Awesome. I think I want to be you when (if) I grow up. Cool pics, incredible report. Pretty sure I need to do this kind of stuff sometime...

    Hunting season for deer

Do you-all just wear lots of orange and head on out? Was hoping for a midweek hike in western ME or the Whites but a bit nervous. Wondering what everyone else does...

Anyone have a dog that doesn't like to hike?

Oooops, sorry - HE, not she! A lot of folks I know feed glucosamine to their older/sore dogs and have good luck with it. Just an idea. Grand Flex, Corta Flx Canine, Missing Link Plus, etc.

Back from the Pacific Crest Trail

Ditto Brambor, that guitar sounds really interesting. Just read the end of your blog, Maineman, and now eagerly looking forward to reading the rest. What a journey! Mazel tov on the "section". :D

Anyone have a dog that doesn't like to hike?

Sounds like you gave it a good try. I wonder if it isn't a pain issue. Big dogs so commonly have joint issues. :( Maybe it just doesn't feel good to her to go up and down.

Mt. Chocorua, and a watershed moment in our quest for the 52

Chiming in to say we had near-solitude on Chocorua on a late season weekday. :) Saw like 4-5 other folks all day long total. Kudos to Janelle for letting the annoying dude's words just roll right off. As if that guy had the power to "ruin" a hike. People like tht are among the most powerless.

10/25/2012 Mt Jefferson via Castle Ravine and Castle Ridge

Mmmyes. I have been wondering if it really was some sort of "calm before the storm" type of thing. It was atypically perfect. And thanks for reading, Mirabela.

    10/8/2012 Tumbledown - Maine

Yes, one of my friends in the pics is a geologist; he taught us the fancy word. :D I need to go back too, still want to check out Little Jackson's summit and also the ridge behind the pond.

    2 Days In The Pemi, 8 4K's & A Different Strategy 10/26-10/27/12

Awesome Bondcliff pic!! Putting that one at the top of my list. What did you carry? I never know what to pack at this time of year for an overnight. There are certainly some amazing days but things can change so fast. Would love to hear your take.

Jefferson, Adams & Madison for 38-39-40, Fri 10/26/12

Wow, awesome, Mirabela abd Isidora!! I agree, the weather last week was ridiculous/surreal -- Talk about "calm before the storm"...!

10/25/2012 Mt Jefferson via Castle Ravine and Castle Ridge

Trek For Peace - Mt Jefferson via Castles - full report The uniquely perfect weather we had on this hike almost makes we want to put a warning at the top of the report. Pretty sure this isn't normal late October weather! It was utterly absurd and wonderful to crest the ridge at Cornice and...

10/16/12 Chocorua and the Sisters - NH

Trek For Peace - Chocorua and The Sisters - Full Report The pictures do most of the talking in this one. Fabulous hike but bitterly cold and windy up high. I'd brought hat and gloves but my friend didn't; his digits were not far from frostnip after a relatively brief stay on the summit...

    10/8/2012 Tumbledown - Maine

This report has a lot of names and references which people may not know unless they are in my running group! But hopefully some of you will enjoy the smattering of info and pics either way. Tumbledown is a really fabulous mountain and it makes no excuse for its size. It doesn't need to...
  16. The Unstrung Harp

Mt Jefferson via Castle Ravine and Castle Ridge

October 25, 2012 Trail Conditions: Nothing unusual. Stream crossings required concentration and time but were not overwhelming. One of us rock hopped, the shorter-legged one stepped right on in (love smartwool and shoes that drain!) Bits of ice and snow were only in the crannies and shady...

Chocorua via Piper and Carter Ledges Trails - October 16, 2012

Date of Hike: October 16, 2012 Trail Conditions: Gentle uphill walk on fallen leaves up Piper and lower part of Carter Ledges Trails. Awesome granite ledges higher up turn into scramble at times, would be pretty treacherous if icy. It was dry when we were there. Extremely windy on ridge...
