Everest: Beryond the limits (second season)

Funny you should say that ....... I'm watching a show right now on PBS (NOVA) called "Deadly Ascent". It's all about climbing Denali. Very interesting, and incredibly beautiful. More info HERE.

    Sherrill - 10/21/07

Hi Eric, I have 3 more peaks and 3 of the 4 winter climbs to finish. Barring any more deaths in our families (or friends), I hope to finish before the spring dinner and awards. We've dealt with 4 deaths (3 family, 1 friend) and a lung removed due to cancer in the past 13 months! And my mom...

    Sherrill - 10/21/07

No time for a TR yet, but HERE are some pics. Thanks to Mudhook for advising about the viewpoint. Holy freaken cow! I found it, and I think it's one of the top 5 best views in the Catskills!! And Sherrill really turned out to be a gem. I wasn't expecting anything overly exciting, but man-o-man...

    Windham (not so) High Peak

Nice report Tom. (You sure didn't waste any time writing it!) I really like WHP, and it's been over 5 years now since I've been up there. Hoping to get back this winter. Need to "get" Burnt Knob and Acra Point this time too! :D Soooo, ....... no pics?

Got Engaged on Slide over the weekend!

Congratulations! Nice place for an engagement. I had planned on proposing on the summit of Cascade or Big Slide, but the weather turned very bad and I didn't want to wait several months before our next trip to the ADKs, ...... so I ended up with a simple, non-dramatic proposal in our room at...

    Bursitis of the hip

Old age! :p Sounds like bursitis maybe ..... but your best best is to see a doc and ask him these questions. Not that there are not a lot of smart people posting on these forums, but you don't want an internet diagnosis for something that could be serious. I've had knee pain in the past...

Algonquin via The Burning Heart Gully

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice! Another Classic Spence & Brian adventure. Luv the pics. What I like most about a report like this is how you put a positive spin on the difficult sections. Despite the cliffs and thick cripplebrush, you two always make up your mind that you can do it, and you do it with...

Looking at the Hilton Garden Inn in Norwalk. It's right on Main Ave, Route 7. Just a few miles north of South Norwalk. My wife is really looking forward to this, and to meeting some new VFTT friends. :)

Thanks for that link. Hey, did you know that John Harlin III will be there the following weekend? Any recommendations on motels and hotels in the area? Price is not a concern. Will research it more this weekend .....

    Lone & Rocky 10-6-07

I had a great time. Huge thanks to Harry and Ralph for leading us. Thanks also to Alan, Al T, and the other Al for navigating assistance and route advice. (There were 4 "Al's on this hike!) Was nice meeting Al and Matty, and Al's kids Fiona and AJ. They are amazing kids, and did incredibly well...

Who are the legends of the New England mountains?

In the ADK's, PinPin (Alain Chevrette) is certainly a legend, and has certainly been an inspiration to many of us. And an all-around good guy. In the Catskills, grid finishers such as Harry Rampe and Ralph Ryndak (AKA Hermit, AKA NightDog) have my admiration. Grid = 35 peaks x 12 (420...

    Silver Hollow & Plateau - 09/23/07

Another last-minute decision to hike. Decision to go made at 8pm on Saturday evening, left NJ at 10:30pm, and arrived at a certain covert parking area at 1:30am. Slept quite comfortably in the back of the X-Terra until about 6:30am. Drove to the parking area at Notch Lake (Devil’s Tombstone)...

    The new crop of Canons

Thanks, Dave. Just bought this camera last night from Crutchfield. Their website advertises it for $349, but the price in the cart automatically drops to $299. Plus free shipping, and no sales tax. Great deal, great camera. Thanks again! Rob

    grace day cancellation!

Hey no worries Adk_dib .... sometimes life has a way of re-arranging all your plans. I am down in Florida right now .... at the public library in Jacksonville. My wife and I have been taking my father-in-law to chemo for his lung cancer. Ya'll think it's hot up there ..... whew ..... you have...

I think it's $10 to spend the night. But I don't recall if they charge in the winter when there is no caretaker. EDIT - It's $12 per night. CLICK HERE for more info.

Awesome pics, Fred, ..... awesome!! Remember Sean & Sue from the Lakota Wolf Preserve and the Delaware Water Gap hike? We used to backpack the presis almost every summer in the 90's. I'm way overdue to get back up there. Thanks for bringing back some good memories.
