FYI: Northern Pass High Voltage Transmission Project

Yeah, the SFPNHF amended the easement to trade one piece of land for a LARGER piece of land, after notifying and receiving the consent of the people who donated the money for the original easement. And the piece they gave up in no way "unblocks" this area for NP.

Sad anniversary coming up thsi weekend, Kate Matrosova

I too am taking it easy due to injury, but thinking about last year. I was on Cannon from Lonesome Lake that day. Hoping for an event-free weekend.

New Hampshire HB 1569 to Impact Volunteer Trail Maintenance Groups

The only problem with this is that AFAIK, the State of NH does not charge parking fees at any trailhead parking lot. There are "beg boxes" at Lafayette Place, but I honestly doubt they bring in much. So you'd be talking about instituting this new set of fees, installing all the infrastructure to...

New Hampshire HB 1569 to Impact Volunteer Trail Maintenance Groups

SMH. NH, "Live Free" doesn't mean "mooch off of other people".

2016 Q1 White Mountain National Forest SOPA

I don't see how the Corridor 11 relo affects winter North Twin access at all, except that there is a brief overlap at the summer parking area/trailhead/bridge. The current route from the end of Little River Rd following the old railroad grade doesn't cross or share any of the current snowmobile...

    Thoreau Falls Bridge Removal?

But recall that the Wild River bridge is *outside* the Wilderness, so different processes/rules apply.

FYI: Northern Pass High Voltage Transmission Project

But the total burial option hasn't been officially proposed -- NP still is only willing to bury a fraction of it (1/3?) And since the burial-on-roads options doesn't benefit PSNH/Eversource through R-O-W rentals, don't expect any traction on it....

    Jewell Trail Bridge Status?

I could have sworn I'd been over the "rebuilt" section post-Irene, and there was an actual bridge. Maybe I'm just hallucinating.

    Garmin 62S accuracy?

Apologies for the grave-digging, but I thought folks interested in the accuracy of distance reported by GPS would be interested in this article on the IEEE Spectrum website: http://spectrum.ieee.org/tech-talk/at-work/test-and-measurement/why_every_gps_overestimates_distance_traveled

Hawthorne Falls - the perennial questions -? How/where - have they disappeared????

Chris Whiton (NeoAkela) recently posted photos and a video to Facebook about Hawthorne Falls.

    Tecumseh view clearing

Yeah, if a trail adopter in a Wilderness thinks he's forbidden to trim brush from a designated trail, he got different training than I did. The corridor should be narrower, so trimming is less aggressive, but not non-existent. Also, you generally won't find new rockwork in the Wilderness.

    Trails that became bushwhacks

Rainbow Trail was pretty easy to follow in August, just chest-high raspberries everywhere, but staying in the groove was straightforward. Some sections of the Wild River Trail are bordering on "you must be kidding, right?"

WMNF Camping Grounds Site Availability After Labor Day

I wonder if you call the White Mountain Visitor Center in Lincoln if they would have an idea? They have that lit-up sign at the exit that shows campground availability. I wonder if they keep records?

    Desperately seeking jp

I don't know NH, but in MA, anyone can get a "one wedding permit" to perform a ceremony. My wife did this for a couple of our friends when she was 8 1/2 months pregnant. Combination wedding & fertility ceremony :-) (though apparently the fertility part wasn't contagious, since they never had...

Moriah Brook Bridge Closed in Wild River Area

I hope so. Have you seen any news on the WMNF site about future projects? I was hoping to do that trail "soonish", but a difficult ford would be a problem.

    Thoreau Falls Bridge Removal?

I believe the short answer is "Nope". And a lot of stuff that was hauled out was only hauled to near the Wilderness boundary, and then dropped.

Trail Maintenance in the White Mountains

Cool beans. But you didn't really open the folding saw vs pruning saw debate, did you? That's almost up there with postholing vs snowshoes... Feel free to shoot me a message any time you're planning on a work-trip for the Coppermine Trail, I'm in the area most weekends.

    Trail Adopting 2015

North Twin could definitely use some help, but I don't want to switch from my current gig. A special work party to fix the washed-out stairs and mud between the 2nd and 3rd crossing would definitely help this heavily-used trail. Maybe some of the people who are obviously maintaining the "herd...
