What is this off-trail group size of 4? I don't see that in the WMNF Wilderness regs.

It's up-to-date (same file I linked to). But the LNT guidelines (page 2) aren't "rules". The "rules" are on the last page. There is a general 200-ft trail exclusion in the rules for the Wilderness. I submit that since there *is* a list of specific 200-ft water-body exclusions in the Wilderness...

Interesting. Black Brook is not listed in the Backcountry Rules as a body of water with a 200' exclusion. Leave No Trace says "Camp at sites that have already been heavily impacted (but be sure it's a legal site) or 200 feet from trails or water."

I don't know about Mansfield or Equinox, but I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to walk the Mt Washington Auto Road when it is open. The 'rule' is that you can't drive up/down these roads and claim that this constitutes 'driving to a trailhead.' Walking these three should be fine (if legal)...

And a $2 brass plaque that says 'this sign was presented to so-and-so in honor of their long service, etc' seems entirely appropriate in such cases. Any trophy shop can whip one of those out in a matter of minutes.
