One Day Pemi Loop - 21 hikers

What is this off-trail group size of 4? I don't see that in the WMNF Wilderness regs.

    Bridge Status In Pemi Wilderness

Note, that for added confusion, when the bridge over the East Branch was removed, portions of certain trails were renamed. The "Wilderness Trail" is now completely on the east side of the East Branch, and the "Bondcliff Trail" now starts at the Wilderness boundary on the west side of the East...

One Day Pemi Loop - 21 hikers

And they tweaked the attendance to say '100' as a deliberate ***. While i certainly agree with the observation that Meetup attendees are flakes, and don't show at the trailhead, I'd guess that people who sign up for this sort of event are on the 'less-flakey' end of the spectrum. So, while they...

    Owl's Head Black Pond bushwhack

Unfortunately, you get the boredom part of the hike with or without the various bushwacks. The Lincoln Woods Trail is just mind-numbing.

    Becca Munroe red-lines the Whites

Awesome job. Congratulations. I'm surprised Coppermine Trail was your last, I thought most redliners finished on some obscure spur in the middle of nowhere.

    Trailhead Steward program

Some of you may be interested in the WMNF Trailhead Steward program. It's an education/outreach progrsm they started this year. Might be to late to get involved this year, but if you contact them now, you could make sure you're on the notification list if they do it again next year. Information...

Bugs on the way to The Bonds?

It's up-to-date (same file I linked to). But the LNT guidelines (page 2) aren't "rules". The "rules" are on the last page. There is a general 200-ft trail exclusion in the rules for the Wilderness. I submit that since there *is* a list of specific 200-ft water-body exclusions in the Wilderness...

Bugs on the way to The Bonds?

Interesting. Black Brook is not listed in the Backcountry Rules as a body of water with a 200' exclusion. Leave No Trace says "Camp at sites that have already been heavily impacted (but be sure it's a legal site) or 200 feet from trails or water."

    Bear activity at Guyot

All of the AMC-managed backcountry sites in NH have bear boxes as of about 2 years ago, when some of them started getting 'visits'. There is also one at Franconia Brook East (non-AMC) http://www.outdoors.org/lodging/campsites/campsites-profile.cfm Outside of the managed sites, you are...

Cabot from the north via Unknown Pond and Kilkenny Ridge Trails. July 10th, 2014

That looks like a beautiful route. I'll keep it in mind for my Cabot trip. Love the frogs.

    mt. mansfield from toll road

And just to be clear - the ne 50 finest isn't an AMC 4000-footer club list, so AMC rules aren't relevant.

    mt. mansfield from toll road

I don't know about Mansfield or Equinox, but I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to walk the Mt Washington Auto Road when it is open. The 'rule' is that you can't drive up/down these roads and claim that this constitutes 'driving to a trailhead.' Walking these three should be fine (if legal)...

    Trail sign replicas

And a $2 brass plaque that says 'this sign was presented to so-and-so in honor of their long service, etc' seems entirely appropriate in such cases. Any trophy shop can whip one of those out in a matter of minutes.

    Trail sign replicas

Apparently, all the cool kids simply find the sign they want and take it (moosilauke, bald peak, mt kinsman trailhead, sugarloaf trailhead/nash stream rd, north percy/percy loop junction). If ever saw someone with a trail sign on their wall, I would be inclined to be hostile, unless it were in...

    Bridge Status In Pemi Wilderness

Philip Werner's scouting trip of the East Branch is here. His conclusion was that it is very difficult to cross the East Branch below the Thoreau Falls bridge. I've been at the alleged crossing at Franconia Brook (next to the Franconia Brook East Tentsite/Wilderness boundary) multiple times, and...

Snoring and staying at an AMC hut advice?

Hey, it's not an orchestra without percussion. Just be happy I (oops, I mean he, really) was in the upper bunk.
