Could it be that they are peaking bagging toads?? Just guessing but I suspect it must have something to do with the ladies. Mt Monadnock has a similar perplexing frog thing. There are several rock indentations on the summit which hold water pretty well, especially during an average wet or better summer. At the end of July-early Aug time frame there will be tadpoles galore swimming in these little pools. I have never found any egg masses before the tadpoles or seen any frogs before or after the tadpoles. I have no idea where they come from or where they go. That shot of the Horn from Unknown Pond is always a great pic.
