Rock Rimmin in Kingston / Danville is supposed to have a nice view and good trail...it's where the cross country team from the high school trains...but I've not yet gone up there...

Time for the 2009 Spring/Summer Flower Thread

93% that your 'mountain cranberry' is actually wintergreen berry...edible and delicious... Also 90% that your 'rhodora' is a sheep laurel...which blooms a few weeks after rhodora and is fun to shoot!

    Shooting Waterfalls

I think this shot works well. The exposure is spot on, now hot spots or deep shadows...and nice even light. A tripod, polarizer and slightly longer exposure might make this pop a bit more... Personal preference is key for waterfalls. I try to get a shutter speed of about 1/4 second for my...

Time for the 2009 Spring/Summer Flower Thread

Zealand Traverse...Crazy Mutant On the hike from Zealand Road to Willey House yesterday, I hiked through many stages of the spring bloom, depending on aspect, terrain and soil. Some areas, the hobblebush was just beginning, others the lady slippers were out. Saw many species of flowers along...

The Essence of Mount Washington: An Evening with White Mountains Photographers

Thanks to all who made the show, and who support the Observatory! I had a lot of fun sharing some pictures and experiences, and glad everyone had a good time. Patrick's slideshow was simply amazing, and his stories and knowledge of moose is quickly becoming as unparalled as his images...

Arrest Made In Recent Car Break-ins

The police were really out in the notch saturday and sunday. A buddy of mine got a slowmo staredown in the Glen Ellis Parking Lot, and was curious who they were after. Great to hear that they were so diligent and tracked this guy down!

Time for the 2009 Spring/Summer Flower Thread

Cool Quadrillium! What I think is most interesting about it is that there is four of everything that is usually in threes on this plant. Explore the picture...it's more fascinating that it initially appears!

    I'm published!?

Congrats. Mine came the other day, and I immediately put it in the catalog pile, to be read when I want to drool. But now that I know it's a not-catalog, it'll have to sit in it's own pile. A standout among few. Truly great marketing!

Is ISO the same on different DSLRs?

I believe Grumpy is correct. The higher ISO's are an amplification of the sensitivity to light of the origional signal of the sensor. ISO 1600 should let the same amount of light in on all cameras, as there is a standard for the aperature, shutter speed and ISO that is kept fairly uniform...

Skiing all six Mt. Washington drainages in one day

That's a big day! Kudos to them! I know Greg well as he was a former intern at the Observatory, as was Salida of whom you give homage to. Great group of guys who are SERIOUS about their skiing!

Time for the 2009 Spring/Summer Flower Thread

Well, I just got back from a tour through Bristol, Groton and Rumney, and found lots of flowers. Violets of assorted variety, anemone and red trilliums were all in bloom, but no pictures. Clintonia was in bud already at sculptured rocks. Trout lillies were everywhere. I finally found some...
