    Death at Cathedral Ledge

I can think of times when I've gone hiking because I was pissed off about something or even depressed. I'll put of my i-pod and earbuds and go to my favorite local hiking trail. I do this to relieve the stress or get my spirits up and it always works. There have been a few times during such...

Best restaurant for post-hike dinner in Whites

Chalk up another vote for Mr. Pizza in Gorham. I also like Fresolones in Lincoln...good pizza, great sauce. The Common Man in Lincoln... everything on the menu is good and the portions are large. I love the meatloaf and potatoes. Way up in Pittsburg after hiking Magalloway, I like the Buck...

Fall colors and seasonal change thread

How I envy you. It should be beautiful on the summit of Mt. Magalloway. Kayaking on any of the three CT Lakes should be equally beautiful. A few beers at the Buck Rub Pub should be a nice way to end your day.

    The Pemi Wilderness--Some History

That'd be interesting to know. I've always been curious about that so I did a little reseach into that and was not able to come up with anything to indicate that they did. If anyone has found otherwise I'd be happy to read about it.

First snow of the 2009/2010 season!

I hope I live long enough to see snow in the year 20010. ;)

    a few recent moose pics

Grrrrrrrrreat pics! I wish I could have gotten a glimpse of these impressive animals last July in Pittsburg. I tried but no luck. Good reason to go back next year. ;) Thanks for posting them.

    Favorite 'Rainy Day' Hikes?

That'd be my first choice. As for outdoor hikes on a rainy day... just about any waterfall hike will do. Glen Ellis, Garfield and Franconia Falls are some of my favorites.

Look before you "take care of business"

In other words, this guy likes being crapped on.

Do you take painkillers, ibuprofen, etc. when hiking?

I'm 48 years old and have a bad knee. I wear a knee brace whenever I hike, which helps a great deal. As far as pain killers, I'll sometimes take them after my hike. But I find that Advil, Tylenol etc. just put a mask on the pain. Usually some rest and a hot tub along with Dr. Wu's IPA treatment...

Does "Inserted Images" in Trip Reports bother you ?

I say keep the pics coming. This is a hiking board, so what's better than looking at trip report pics? Keep 'em coming.

Man Calls Helicopter for Injured Thumb

Up until now I thought that Major League Baseball players were the world's biggest crybabies.

Etiquette of "Please take my picture"

I never ask people to take my picture. I hate having my picture taken because quite frankly I simply do not like the way I look and have no problem admitting that I am ugly as sin. However, when someone approaches me at the summit and asks me to take their picture I always oblige. I am almost...

    Fourth Connecticut Lake

It's not really a lake; more like a pond. This hike was a bit more challenging that I thought it would be. At the very beginning there is a bit of an incline and a little bit of rock scrambling is involved. This made for a lot of fun for my young son. What really makes this hike though is that...

    Mt. Magalloway (7/28/09) -

I did this hike last year but only got to spend about 30 seconds at the summit before black clouds rolled in and I had to hike down in a near flood. This year it was 180 degrees opposite. Nothing but sun all day! We took the Coot Trail both up and down. On the way up we'd stop and check out...

    Lamest call for rescue ever

I basically cannot stomach cell phones. When I'm on a trail or summit I can't stand it when someone pulls out a cell phone and makes it sound like that 4,000 foot (or less) summit was like climbing Mt. Everast. With that being said, the only time I will use a cell phone at the summit is to...

    Lamest call for rescue ever

Most likely a couple of YUPPIES; since that is probably the case then I'm sure they can well afford to reimburse the State of Alaska for this "rescue". What a waste of time and resources.
