About tomorrow evening, MWO says:

As the moisture-starved front charges through, it will produce a few rain showers, which have the possibility to conclude as our first snowflakes of the season... Be prepared for rapidly deteriorating weather by way of accelerating winds, falling temperatures, rime, and possibly glaze icing conditions.

Sounds like perfect timing for my first hike of the season. Backed off #1 last year 'cause I didn't have traction with me. :D:D:D

{{{ does the happy dance }}}

Of course, I'm still in shorts and the house windows are open...

I hope I live long enough to see snow in the year 20010. ;)

Dammit. I'm naked, covered in bacon grease and heading out to the bridge in the Pemi with nothing but a jar of Barge Glue. Gonna be a tough night....

EDIT: I just took 75,000 mg of Viagra. That's all they had at the local CVS. Should get me through the night...

Typing in zeros -- that's a hard habit to break. I have to work in advance of the calendar year and find I've done better if I say the year out, as in "twenty-ten" and not "two-thousand and ten." Numbers are not my thing. :rolleyes: Give me hills, but don't expect me to know the elevation gain, altitude, mileage, time.

still in summer/fall backpacking mode... not ready to swing into ice just yet... and never ready for the dreaded snowshoe.
I totally agree. I mean I love the winter but it's not even legally Autumn yet and we're talking about snow? Some great hiking to be had over the next 2 or 3 months before the serious snow / ice starts and I'm looking forward to that. Taking it one day at a time.

Me too! Last year (a banner year for skiing if ever there were one), we didn't have skiable snow until early December. I am now a certifiable winter-preferer-er, but I don't really see it coming for a while yet.

But losing the bugs? Huzzah for that!

BRING ON THE SNOW! Dying for the white stuff because co-workers and I splurged and rented this at Sunday River for a few days early in the winter :rolleyes::

Put the skis away for now, folks:
Yesterday's forecast mentioned the possibility of a few snowflakes, but as of this time, it appears that chance has all but diminished due to the lack of available moisture incident with colder temperatures.

Mohamed I wouldn't jump the gun yet on that forecast, there is a solid line of showers pushing into VT right now that should hold together enough to get to Mount Washington. The temps up there are 36 right now, and it won't take much cold air to force them down. I bet with this airmass by Friday night, it will be about 23 or so up there. It is a very quick shot of cold air from Canada, kind of a preview of what's to come. Behind the front this afternoon is a slight upslope event for a few hours that should drop some snowflakes above 5000 feet. Either way, there should be rime ice which could coat the summit white. Anyone hiking Saturday up there may get the leaves changing down low with a little white higher up. Can't wait for October :)
