Gym aka Health Club Membership Costs

I'm a little late to this thread, sorry about that. Anyway, if you can get a gym membership for $30 month w/o any add on fees then you've gotten a good deal. Between competition in the fitness industry and the bad economy, most gyms are willing to negotiate with you these days. I think the...

Losing Weight and Getting into Shape

I ate like a pig and sampled every holiday brew that I could find in the liquor store. I also continued to workout like an animal at the gym and have already gotten plenty of use of the Denali snowshoes that I got for Christmas. Rather than step on a scale and worry about what it reads, I use...

What did you do in 2009?

I am not fortunate enough to live close to the WMNF to go hiking up there as often as I'd like. Mostly my hiking in 2009 was restricted to trails here in RI. However, I did get to hike Mt. Willard with my young son. The family and I hiked Mt. Magalloway in Pittsburg for the second time. This...

    So, what'd you get?

You'd be surprised. I have a pair from Job Lot that I bought a few years ago. After many miles of hiking they are still in good condition.

    Mt. Tom Trail

Date of Hike: 11/27/2009 Trail Conditions: Mostly Dry, a little muddy in some areas but nothing that wasn't passable. Special Equipment Required: Orange hat since it is required this time of year by law. Hiking boots and poles are helpful. Comments: Probably one of the most scenic hikes in...

    Do You Ever Hike Drunk?

I never drink alcohol on a hike. I keep it in a cooler at the trailhead. Gotta have some incentive to return. :D

Sad to report another death on Mt. Washington

Very tragic. The fact that this happened so close to Thanksgiving only adds to the tragedy. My thoughts, prayers and sympathy to his family, friends and patients.

    Trail sign warnings

I'll start smelling anything on the ground that might be bear sh*t. Gotta be safe. :D

    Rescuers fear "Yuppie 911"

I'm not at all surprised by this. I live in a neighborhood filled with YUPPIES. I can tell you that YUPPIES are the most self-centered and egotistical people around. Most see themselves as invincible and posses a hige sense of entitlement. Doesn't this article prove that? YUPPIE hiking plan...

Upcoming Pine Bend Brook, UNH, Potash, and Oliverian Brook Trail Closures - Kanc7

Did not get a chance yet to read the entire report but Mt. Potash is one of my favorite day hikes when I'm up in the WMNF. Hopefully the affect is minimal.

Losing Weight and Getting into Shape

See the rest of my post. I've been working out like an animal since I was in my teens and continue to do so at age 48. I have no intentions of slowing down, in fact I've increased my running speed and distance as I am getting older. I've had to lighten up on the weights a bit since I had a...

Losing Weight and Getting into Shape

I have zero will power and refuse to diet. I won't give up pizza, beer, cheeseburgers etc. With that being said, I am a workout machine. I belong to a gym and contrary to what some may think, not all gyms and gym members are there for the social scene. I workout 6 days a week doing weights 3X a...

    O Canada!_ (02-Oct-2009)

Nice pics. That's a nice part of Quebec (Coaticook) that you were in. I did the 4th Connecticut Lake Trail in Pittsburg last summer and you actually hike into Cananda for part of the hike. The southern part of Quebec is beautiful.

PBS National Parks starts tonight 9/27

I agree 100%. I only watched the first two episodes and like Stan, I would have loved to have seen more of the visuals. A little bit on the hiking trails in the parks would have been nice as well.
