Christmas is a really stressful holiday and can be a huge pain in the rear, but it does have some a few redeeming qualities. Namely presents.

Got a lot of functional, "mature" (read: boring but good to have) presents. However, a few people really came through. My younger brothers got me a set of Metolius rock ring training holds and my and and uncle got me my first ever pair of climbing shoes, Red Chili Spirits. I'm pumped.

So, what fun stuff did you guys get?

My dad gave me a pair of mismatched treking poles from Ocean State Job Lot.
I've never used poles before, but might find them handy on ice or water crossings. I've usuallly depended on my sense of balance.
My question is how long before they end up broken from use on a long dayhike?

My sweetie got me a gorgeous new ski jacket for out on the slopes, and a terrific bottle of Scotch for afterward. :)

We also got each other our 3-day trip to Sugarloaf, which was a blast except for the 5-hour power outage. Not just the lift or the ski area, mind you, but six surrounding towns.

Santa got it right!

MSR Evo Ascent snowshoe's.
Looking forward to testing them.
Watch VFTT for a trip report soon.
:D

Got what I asked for, nothing! My wife and I buy each other things thru out the year but seldom anything for Christmas, Valentines and any other hildays taking over by commercialism.

However I did enjoy the time with the family. To me that is the most important present.

Got a nice North Face sweater, and a very nice pendant of St. Bernard...Patron Saint of Skiers, Climbers, and Alpinists. And a Thermarest ProLite sleeping pad...can't wait to get out and use it.

Small LED flashlight, as backup for my ancient headlamp that I actualy found in an crack in the ledge on top of Pine Mountain quite a few years ago.
The flashlight is a modest present, but I told my girlfriend that she saved my life again..

No equipment for me.....but I did get a nice new fleece blanket for Marley (my dog). He looked at me with those puppy dog eyes and they said "Monday night will be -10 can I try it out then?". Looks like we are heading out to try his new blanket!

Socks! Lots of nice Bean (Smartwool) socks of various thicknesses.

Also got a Road ID. It's a wristband with a plate engraved with name, contact information (wife and doctor) and has an entry stating I'm alergic to bee stings. Handy stuff to have available if soeone finds me along the side of the road if I crash my bike or out in the woods if I have some sort of a problem.

You'd be surprised. I have a pair from Job Lot that I bought a few years ago. After many miles of hiking they are still in good condition.

What do you get for the person who has a whole room full of gear?
Answer: More gear.

Alas, it was not to be. It seems people were afraid to get me the wrong things, but I am enjoying the items I did receive, none of which were hiking related. I guess I'll just have to buy them myself then. :D
