Use of Drones for Environmental Conservation Enforcement

I was enjoying a campfire with a friend, sipping wine and talking treason, when I noticed a blinking light in the river. I walk down to the river and rock hopped across to the blinking light thinking it might be an actual alien encounter only to find a large drone. I rescued it from its watery...

Anyone know of a consignment shop for used gear. A co-worker needs some backpacking gear for her two sons, ages 12 & 15. Thanks

Canadian Hiker Shuttle Lincoln Lafayette Route

I've seen this shuttle a few time over the years. They also run a shuttle to FW/OBP trailhead that usually arrives about 4:00pm. They do the loop in headlamps.

    Car camping tent

I bought the Coleman Weathermaster, which sleeps ten. Although there is enough room for all my gear, I wasn’t happy with the dripping from condensation off of the rain fly. I guess Weathermaster is a relative term.

    Microspikes vs. Crampons

One additional point. Micros tend to get dull a lot fast because you wear them on snow and rock, whereas crampons are worn exclusively on ice, or should be. Also, you can sharpen crampons, while micros are a pain in the ass to sharpen, so we tend to just buy a new pair.

    Microspikes vs. Crampons

You will get as many different answers as there are hikers. I personally carry both because it’s my ass on the line and I have run into situations where the crampons were the best choice given the conditions. I will give you an example of how having crampons with you can be critical even on...

    Sleeping pad - winter dayhikes

I carry two: a 36” and a 20” Therm-a-Rest pad for splints. They can double for an insulation pad if need be. They both fit into the back sleeve of my backpack.

Waterville Valley Nordic pass required for Livermore Rd.?

You can ski the Livermore Road up to the turn off to the Tri's without a pass. You can also ski the Tripoli Road without a pass as well. You cannot ski the turn off to Osceola Vista without a pass.

Kancamagus Condition / Pine Bend Parking

Livermore parking is plowed by WV for the XC skiers, but hikers are welcome to use it as well. Personally, I prefer the Scaur Ridge approach given that I live along rt 49.
