Howe (North) Peaks Trail Baxter - Reopening

Having gone to the end of the ridge on Howe and also seeing it from the Hamlin ridge, I’ve always thought that it wouldn’t be a difficult bushwhack to do from Howe to either Hamlin trail, or Blueberry, or even Chimney pond. Once you start heading down the main part of the Howe ridge, you have...

Howe (North) Peaks Trail Baxter - Reopening

Thanks for the link. Doing just Hamlin and Howe would be a good loop, never mind doing the entire loop over the Knife Edge. Doing it as a backpack is definitely a possiblity.

Howe (North) Peaks Trail Baxter - Reopening

Not sure about the backpack, would have to check the total mileage of the loop. I think we did just over 18 with our out and back on Howe, so what is a few more miles.

Howe (North) Peaks Trail Baxter - Reopening

Our plan for next year is up Helon Taylor, over the knife Edge, tag Baxter Peak, tag Hamlin, and then head over to Howe and out the new trail. This year we went up Hunt, tagged Baxter Peak, tagged Howe, and then headed down Hamlin. Long day but well worth it.

Howe (North) Peaks Trail Baxter - Reopening

I’ve wanted to visit Howe for some time and finally got an opportunity to do so when we were there for a week in August. Not knowing for sure which of the “knobs” was Howe, Pam and I hiked to the end of the ridge. There was a small sign on the second to last cairn that said the trail was closed...

Seeking help in locating unique architectural styles in New England

Thank you all for your wonderful suggestions. Although the course begins Sept 7th, I didn’t want to wait until the last minute before choosing a topic for my photo essay and research paper. Unique might be a misnomer, in that, the course wants we to focus on the unfamiliar, rather than the...

Question Regarding Foster Field Group Campsite at Baxter, any recent visitors

They haven't put in the charcoal grills as of yet. We just stayed there for a week and had a great time. You can also walk across the road and sit in the river if it gets too hot.

    Cog RR Hiker Parking Questions

The cost is $5.00 An elderly man, older than death itself, drives around in an equally old station wagon collecting the fee. He will give you a parking permit that you put on your dash. You MUST park in the lower lot to the right.

    Dudley Trail (BSP) comparison?

I went down Dudley in the throes of Plantar Fasciitis and it wasn’t fun. A comparison might be the boulder field of King Ravine, just longer and steeper.

Reminder Laconia Bike Week starts this weekend

I live along route 49 in Thornton and a large number of Canadian bikers stay in Waterville Valley so when I'm sitting by the river sipping some wine a group of 30 or 40 of them will go by. I actually enjoy it since it is only one week a year.
