Sounds like you had a good time up there. It was nice chatting with you on our way up - guess we should have 'alligator egg'ed you :D What an awesome day to be on Carrigain!
good question, I'm trying to remember without looking it up...I think Middle and South Carter, Tom and ummm...West Bond?
Earl, that would be pretty cool if you spotted us from the chimney! I love that spot
Great pictures Amy!
My main list now is the Y-Alpine 100, which I need less than 30 to complete. I'm also working on the 52 With A View, T-3000, Trailwrights 72, 48x4, etc. And redlining the AMC maps
The morning started gloriously. Clear skies, bright stars and a sweet message from my girlfriend on my cell phone had me ready to start the hike to my 48th NH 4000 footer.
PoisonIvy and I geared up and waited (and waited..) for una_dogger and MichaelJ to arrive at the winter parking for Sawyer...
I'm working on the T-3000 list and have been to 84 of them so far. I've only done a little bushwhacking but have enjoyed it so might do more in the future
After turning back on my first attempt at summiting Owl's Head back in October due to surprisingly icy conditions that we weren't geared up for
[trip report: http://www.vftt.org/forums/showthread.php?p=162627]
and having to cancel a 2nd attempt on the Saturday before Xmas due to a forcast of...
Sabbaday is wicked steep up near the ridge, I'd recommend descending Pine Bend instead - besides, it's shorter and you won't have to retrace your steps after hitting the North summit
Just about any trail on Monadnock has some good aspects to recommend it. I wouldn't do the White Cross/Dot trails except on a week day or weekend with lousy weather because I don't like crowds.
Hey slowpoke, glad to hear you're getting out for some snowshoeing. I've got some big hikes planned for the next two weekends but maybe we could head out to some snow later in February
I work with the elderly, and most of my clients get a real kick hearing about my hiking trips. Some of them have experiences of their own to share - like the new client who grew up in Austria where her mother taught mountaineering and led climbs in the Alps  - or the ex-navy pilot who...
wow, I'm feeling chilly just reading about that trip! I was wondering what you guys where going to do with the deadly weather forcast for the weekend! Glad to hear you had so much fun anyways :D
That's will-E as in 'a case of the willies', right? I believe I've heard somewhere that that phrase came from a story about the slide that wiped out the Willey family. I used to always pronounce it like Why Lee (as in the cartoon coyote) until I heard that story
The Taconic Crest Trail does have multiple bailout options, not all of which are shown on the Mass AMC Guide's NW map. It's not the most attractive trail around though, lots of ATV damage. Check out my trip report from when I was up there in October...
