    Exploring Monadnock

I did that loop earlier this year. I had climbed up via the Dublin and gone over to redline the Hedgehog and Great Pasture Trs. On Monta Rosa a thunderstorm moved in, so I decided to head down via Marlboro so I didn't have to go back above treeline. The roadwalk was indeed a long slog. Shaker Rd...

Previously on Lost - in the Belknaps?

I thought about that when I first reached the junction with the Brook Tr. In retrospect it would have been the thing to do. The yellow blazes where the easiest of all to spot. I haven't been on it before and I was afraid the trail would have been very wet at the time Yes it was an LED light. I...

Previously on Lost - in the Belknaps?

Earlier this year I responded to Carole's call for trail adopters for the eastern Belknap Range. After considering the list of available trails she sent me, I chose the Precipice Path. This trail is kind of shaped like a large U, with one leg ascending Straightback Mtn and the other ascending Mt...

    Animals encountered on the trail?

I don't see wildlife nearly as often as I would like, but have had a few thrills on trail - Bear - spotted one running away from me over a hill on the west side of Mt Tom in Mass. Glad it was more scared of me than I was of it Moose - one on the far side of a pond alongside the trail to...

    Music while hiking

I've almost always got music running through my head while I hike, often something from one of the mix tapes I listened to on the drive to the trailhead.

    What is your "White Whale?"

I've only failed to summit on a few hikes. First was Cherry Mtn on one of my first snowshoe hikes. My hiking partner that day had never snowshoed before so we turned back. I managed to get up there the following winter and figured we had been about a 10th of a mile from the top when we turned...

    Coppermine Shelter

I'm thinking of heading up to spend the night by Bridal Veil Falls in a couple weeks. Any VFTTers been up there lately? I've read that the shelter is being considered for removal and hope it's not too late...

How about the 2nd or 3rd weekend in July? I've been wanting to get back to Greylock and it'd be interesting to hike with 2 dogs nicknamed Boo :)

    Osceola whack

We discovered that there is also a big one on the south side of the main peak. Got a good view of it from a viewpoint on the southeast peak on my recent whack.

    Southeast Osceola whack

Inspired by a recent trip report on Rocks On Top that mislabelled East Osceola as Southeast Osceola, I was curious about the shoulder of Osceola that runs south from the East Peak. At it's southern end there appeared to be a peak with 50' or more prominance. Both the Goodrich Rock Tr and the...

    Davis -true summit?

I'm agreeing with Dug. When I was there a couple years ago, none of us in the group were sure about this issue, it was a long hot day traversing Isolation and the thick (but low) brush between the two bumps made none of us want to head over there. I look forward to heading back for the true...

    Osceola whack

The weather wasn't favorable so we didn't go on the 31st. Now we're thinking of going on Saturday June 14th. Also thinking we will reverse the course, hike up to the end of the Timber Camp Tr, whack up to the SE summit and then on to East Osceola, returning via the trails and Greeley Ponds...

    Dorset - June 1, 2008

Yeah, that's a nice little viewpoint. When I hiked Dorset this winter we ended up on this peak last, and the view helped make for a satisying experience :)
