    Parker & Tremont

Sounds great, this peak is high on my list to hike this year.

    Mt Ellen and Abraham 5/24

Date of Hike: 5/24/08 Trail Conditions: A little slippery and muddy in places. A few on-trail patches of snow and ice made for a bit of postholing, but not too bad. Not much trouble with blowdowns Special Equipment Required: Good gripping soles for the slippery ledges. Hiking poles were...

    Gas and holiday weekend hiking

I'm planning to do alot of hiking in Mass and southern NH and VT this year to save on gas. Most of my trips up to NH will probably be for multiple days to get the most climbing in for my money

    Osceola whack

Yeah, that slide on the north I'll save for a later date when I have more slide climbing experience under my belt. I'm curious about that shelter Dr Wu mentioned, but doubt we'll go out of our way to find it. From looking at the maps, I would think it might not be too steep heading down the...

    Osceola whack

Actually, that was West and Middle Osceola that I hiked with you, PoisonIvy, dougeh, ScenicNH and blackcoffee. Gee, you didn't have fun fighting through the thick woods :D ? I'll have to check out that slide, thanks! I was searching old threads here and found this one...

    Osceola whack

On the 31st, dougeh and I are planning a trip up to the Osceolas from the Waterville side, up Greeley Pond Tr and up and over the summits. I had the idea to try whacking from the East peak down the shoulder that heads straight to the south to that little sub peak with about 50' of prominance...

M-M Trail Section 5: East Mountain

I really enjoyed this section of the M-M too! I'd like to spend some more time out there exploring the many side paths with Dugan's new GPS :D

    Zealand River whack

Last summer I spent a day exploring around the Sugarloafs near Zealand. It was a nice hot day and I spent a couple hours wading up and down the Zealand River. I had the idea of returning this summer on a hot sunny day and following the river upstream as far as I can. I'm curious if any VFTTers...

Carrigain via Shoal Pond Tr/Desolation Tr

I'm thinking, due to the wet and muddy aspect of this route, that an August or early September date might be good.

Carrigain via Shoal Pond Tr/Desolation Tr

Well, two reasons - 1) I've hiked the Ethan Pond Tr s>n already and want to see the other side of the trees. 2) Having already climbed Carrigain from the Signal Ridge side (thanks again to you and u_d again for joining me on that hike) I'd like to climb it from the north. Besides, it's not that...

Carrigain via Shoal Pond Tr/Desolation Tr

One of the hikes I'm thinking of doing this year (maybe late summer or early fall) is Carrigain as a north to south traverse, starting on Zealand Rd, to Ethan Pond Tr, to Shoal Pond Tr, to Desolation Tr and out to the Sawyer River Rd. I've heard Shoal Pond Tr can be a little tricky to follow...

Pocumtuck Ridge Tr (MA) traverse - Sunday May 4th

The trail is 15 miles long, starting at the southern base of South Sugarloaf in S Deerfield MA and ending in Greenfield a little beyond the Poet's Seat Tower. It crosses South Sugarloaf (652'), North Sugarloaf (791'), Pocumtuck Rock (846'), Canada Hill (ele. ?), Sachem Head (452') and Rocky...

    Black flies

They were biting pretty bad around Mt Race/Mt Everett on the 19th. On the Robert Frost Tr in Central Mass yesterday they were swarming in a few spots but did not seem to be biting

    Isolation via Glenn Boulder?

I hiked Isolation via Glen Boulder with Steve, Amicus, a.s.o. a couple years ago and loved that trail (we headed out via Davis Path - a long day). Alot of it is exposed and you can get some great views along the way. Quite steep from the beginning, it had us huffin' and puffin' for sure! While...

4/19 - Mass AT from CT border to Jug End

We will be starting from the west of the AT, just south of the MA/CT border. The AMC Mass Trail Guide describes it as "A pull-off is just south of a stone state boundary marker. From the pull-out an unmarked woods road travels east 1.0 mi to the AT". On the map that comes with the guide, this...

    winter parking for Carter-Moriah Tr

thanks for all the info. Looks like I won't be able to make it up there this weekend after all :(

    winter parking for Carter-Moriah Tr

Most people hike Moriah in winter via Stoney Brook and I've read that is in part due to the parking at the Carter-Moriah TH being problematic. I'm wondering if anyone on VFTT has checked it out recently as I would like to head up that way next weekend, partly so I can bag Surprise along the way...

Cohos Trail adding huts - what do you think?

Anything to help ensure that this trail continues to exist sounds good to me.
