I heard on the Channel 9 news this morning that at the current rate this could well be a record breaking winter for snow amounts. This is only my 3rd winter of hiking/snowshoeing and I've been totally LOVING IT!!

I went up via the Greenleaf Tr on Sunday. The lower part was post-holed pretty bad, but all the way up there was a good hardpack to snowshoe through the new snow on.

The same guy who produced this map also produced the recent Wonalancet / Sandwich Range map. Quite a beautiful pair of maps! I wonder if he's got a new project in the works yet...maybe new Ossipee or Belknap range maps? Or how about the ridges heading up to Cardigan?

That's a real shame there were no views for you on Cherry Mtn. You get a great look at the Presis up there when the clouds cooperate. Well worth returning for on a later date!

I love that map! It came in very handy in September when I was climbing Paugus and Chocorua. The same guy just published a new detailed map of the Waterville Valley area which uses the same format. I picked one up last week at the Mountain Wanderer and look forward to exploring that area in 08.

A Boston though - not enough coat for the cooler conditions. Also, Bostons have a braecephalic head like the Pugs - not the best choice for an athlete due to issues with breathing and overheating.

Even on weekdays you can expect to encounter several other hikers on the Great Blue Hill. I found the route that gets the least traffic on that hill is the Skyline Tr from the west. Park in the parknride lot and you might not see another hiker until you near the observatory. For a better chance...
