    Ice Gulch conditions

Anyone been to Ice Gulch lately? I'm considering heading up there next Monday or Tuesday and hoping there might still be some ice to cool me off

    Carr Mtn Tr western side

thanks for all the info. I'm going to head over there on Saturday if Amicus is still able to join me. Otherwise I'll just do an out-n-back from the east side

    Owl's Head Coordinates

My sentiments exactly! The slide is what makes this a fun hike if you ask me. And you'll get the great views of the east side of Franconia Ridge while on the slide

Gothics via Pyramid, Armstrong, Upper Wolf Jaw; ADK No. 17, 18, 19: July 12, 2007

I'm glad I finally had the time to read this trip report. Your enthusiasm really made it come alive and make me want to head over there myself! I hope to be able to hike with you two again soon!

All I Have To Do Is Outrun You!

While you're up there, a side trip over to Eastman is worth checking out. A nice ledgy summit with great views. Might be better to hit Eastman before the Baldfaces though since the Baldfaces are much more spectacular.

North and South Percy and Sugarloaf on 7/29

Day 2 of my 5 day vacation in the Whites. For my birthday I wanted something a little special, so figured heading up to my furthest north peaks yet was in order. I would like to start the day with Sugarloaf, but it's weather dependant. Since the Percys are rumored to have some scrambly...

    Stinson and Carr on 7/28

I'm heading up to start a 5 day vacation in the Whites to bag some 52 WAV and Y-Alpine peaks. Day 1 - Saturday 7/28 We'll meet at the western trailhead of the Carr Mtn Tr, on Clifford Brook Rd off Rt 25, and leave a car there. Then it's over to Doe Town Rd to the Stinson Mtn Tr for an...

    Carr Mtn Tr western side

I'm planning to hike up Carr Mtn later this month. The new edition of the WMG says that maintenance has resumed on the western end of the trail so I'm hoping to do a traverse rather than an out-n-back from the east. I was wondering if anyone has any recent first-hand experience over there?

Death and Hail - Madison via Howker Ridge 7/7/7

The plan was to bag 7 new summits on this day (4 Howks and 3 Adamses) - but things don't always work out according to plan, do they? Heading to East Randolph I noticed that Appalachia was rapidly filling up. I was pleasantly surprised to arrive at an empty trailhead :D at 9am on the nose. I...

    Death March 2007 – Madison Gulf – 07/01/07

I can report that the Howker Ridge Tr is a blast to ascend on. I really enjoyed it on Saturday and would love to return to it someday, though probably not to descend after a long hike  .

Madison and Adamses via Howker Ridge

Thanks for the suggestions but I'm really looking forward to hiking up the Howker Ridge. It's something I've been looking forward to. Plus I plan to ascend the Castle Ridge later this summer.

Madison and Adamses via Howker Ridge

Looking to hit 7 new peaks on 7/7/07: Head up Howker Ridge to Madison, bagging the 4 Howks along the way (T-3000 and LPNP peaks). Down to the hut for refueling, swing by Star lake to Adams and from there hit 3 of the 4 Adams subpeaks, probably Sam, JQ and 4. If I can get somewone to go with me...

Sounds like you made the smart choice for you and Chester. He was a great dog to hike with. It was good that you had run into PoisonIvy too since she wasn't sure if she had missed us - yeah, like I could hike that fast  We got out around 9pm, just as it was getting dark - pretty...

Best post-hike restaurants, bars, pizzerias, ice cream, etc.

I'll second the vote for the Tilt'n Diner. Great comfort food in a relaxed atmosphere - and they play great oldies. Plus their breakfast buffet on weekends will get you fortified pre-hike. I can't remember the name, but I've twice stopped at the Mexican place in Lincoln on the north side of the...

    Baldface/Royce Range traverse 6/16/07

Today started as the first all-male group hike I think I've ever been on. PoisonIvy would join up with us later in the day... The group included myself, Amicus, Dougeh, ScenicNH, Nartreb, Skapig, and Yellowdog and his yellow dog Chester. Chester was raring to go and barked a few times as we...
