    Sleepy Giant - CT

Cool, thanks for bringing this up Lenny. I didn't know it was such an interesting place to hike - I've hardly even ever heard of it.

    Dry River Tr conditions

hmmm, from DougPaul's link: The Dry River Bridge is not passable. The bridge is 2.9 miles from Rt 302, on the Dry River Trail, in the Presidential-Dry River Wilderness. The bridge spans a particularly volatile river crossing that is difficult and potentially hazardous during times of low flow...

    Dry River Tr conditions

some friends and I are considering using this trail as we head up to Eisenhower tomorrow. We haven't been able to find any recent info on conditions there. If anyone can clue us in to the likelyhood of the water crossings being high and dificult it would be appreciated. Also, what's the story on...

    Bugs in VT

When on Mendon last weekend we were SWARMED with black flies  but at least the mosquitos were very small in number. With sufficient reapplications of repellant we were able to avoid too many bites but with such big swarms it's hard to keep them out of the eyes, ears, nose and throat :p

    Randolph & Crescent 6-2-07

thanks for the info J&J. I think I might have gotten lucky on Crescent: I pushed through the trees a bit and climbed up on a bump. I scanned around looking for higher points to head to and there was the cannister right in my face :D

    Randolph & Crescent 6-2-07

So the true summit of Randolph is off the trail? Aargh! Well, at least I managed to find the cannister on Crescent when I was there back in January - though I wasn't able to open the jar since it was frozen. I didn't see anyone at all that day (there weren't even any human tracks in the snow...

    Cheap Sleeps in the Whites

Just spent my first night there and found it to be very nice. Very clean, nice big building with many bunk rooms. Large common area/living room with books and TV/VCR, kitchen, bathroom had two showers with good hot water. Staff was very friendly and actually quite knowledgable about hiking...

    Insight into a Bushwhack

I don't think I've ever gotten such a good upper body workout on a hike before :D . It was very satisfying to clear the trail for those to follow. It was also nice knowing we left some of the bigger ones for the real trail croo to deal with  . Thanks to AndyF for his trip report last...

    peakbagging by style?

I also started mostly hiking solo and have kept track of the peaks that I've summitted that way. 17 of the 48 at this point if I remember correctly. Now that I've made so many friends through the boards I rarely hike solo, but eventually I hope to get to all of them by myself.

    Moat Traverse 5/19/07

OK, I'm in. What's the start time? Flatbread afterwards sounds cool - I've never been there but will take your word for it EB. It'll take me about 3.5 hours to get to the southern trailhead. Any chance you two could set up the carspot without me?

    June 16 - Baldface/Royce Range Traverse

    Nice conditions on Whiteface 5-5-07

I was with a group that headed up the Wonalancet Range toward Passaconaway that day and we wondered why, despite the large numbers of cars in the lot, there didn't look like there had been much traffic on the Rollins Tr (or Diceys Mill for that matter). Now we know - the trail's a mess of...
