    Cross Rivendell Tr-Vermont 12/1/11

Thanks bjc. There are so many more things than the higher peaks, and I like to experience it all. If I can kick this cold, I will hike another section of the trail this week, but I may have to wait a bit. But I like these types of hikes because I am not huffing and puffing so much that I'm...

One more ex of peculiar blazing... Like the pic I posted of the 7 blazes in 10 feet....lots of the trail did have lots of blazing, sometimes every other tree. Then, there would be a section with almost no blazing. So then I start to think...."hmm, I just crossed three woods roads, am I still...

    Cross Rivendell Tr-Vermont 12/1/11

I agree...in fact there were times along the hike that I was thinking about that, and I thought maybe I am just being too overcritical. But, of the five times I have hiked along sections of the Cross Rivendell trail, I walked off the trail five times, and twice I got lost. Yesterday I briefly...

    Cross Rivendell Tr-Vermont 12/1/11

some more Just past the shelter, there were a few views, which I consider some of the best of the day, because there was a sheer drop off right below my feet. Looking across the Middle Brook valley, I was on that hill earlier If you look to the right of the house across that road, you can...

    Cross Rivendell Tr-Vermont 12/1/11

West Fairlee, VT I took a trip along the recently constructed Cross Rivendell trail through the towns of Vershire, and West Fairlee, VT, about 11 miles in total. The trail used logging roads, old woods roads, constructed hiking trails, main roads, and dirt roads. The trail is blazed in blue...

Mt Cube On A Gray Day 11/17/11

Agreed, Cross Rivendell is a great trail (although quite eroded these days above 2000 ft), with several view points before the top. The Kodak trail is prob the best though. The Mt Cube trail is my least fav of the three, but its all relative....

Mt Cube On A Gray Day 11/17/11

paat 2 buddy A few more shots... views from Smarts, all the way down to Ascutney Once the windchill dipped into the teens, I decided that it was time to go. I had never hiked this section of the Cross Rivendell trail without snow...and I found the upper part to be a rocky, muddy mess...

Mt Cube On A Gray Day 11/17/11

My hiking hotstreak continued last Thursday with a trip up Mt Cube from Rt 25A in the Wentworth/Piermont/Orford area. Completing that section of the AT to the summit means that I have hiked the AT from Hartland VT, to Rt 25A, and of course other sections. Hmm, maybe I really will hike the...

Favorite Ponds in the White Mountains

Hmm, Shoal Pond, Ethan Pond, Zeacliff Pond, Little East Pond, the main pond of the Three Ponds... and from what I've seen, I think I would love Flat Mtn Pond, Unknown Pond, Garfield Pond, among others. I need to get there. I love water. EDIT: Kinsman Pond, completely forgot. THat is right...

    WMNF....little photo quiz for non-experts

Could #2 be Lake of the Clouds hut sign? the "50" feet in the upper right leads me to guess that, because the elevation at the hut is 5050 feet.

Fairlee Vt's Version of the Palisades 11-11-11

Quick trip report....I've seen a steep hill with ledges along I-91 in Fairlee, VT for years, and wondered if there was an easy way to the top, for some top notch views. Long story short, there is! The trail can't be over a mile long to the main view point, but it continued further along the...

A Moose Shares Lonesome Lake With Us 11/9/11

Thanks John! That area is one of the most photogenic spots in NH, hands down. Glad you liked them. :) Haha I wouldn't have seen it if it hadn't been for my girlfriend. He was somewhat...friendly, or maybe just bold, I don't know. Thanks Patrick. I was hoping to do my best "forestgnome"...

A Moose Shares Lonesome Lake With Us 11/9/11

paaat 2 Now at the hut, nice day for a lunch at the hut outdoors! Temp was 58, next to no wind. Now, time to head around the lake. We were hoping to see bullwinkle, but no such luck. Drools... The trail is a lot easier than when I did it a few yrs back. Trail maintenance perhaps? I...

A Moose Shares Lonesome Lake With Us 11/9/11

I had a day off on Wednesday, and so did my girlfriend. So why not take a hike in one of the white mtns most beautiful places....Lonesome Lake. This hike was perfect in many ways: the weather (50s and 60s), views, wildlife (we saw a moose!) and so on and so forth. I am a fan of hikes near...
