3 Moose at 30 Feet for 30 minutes: Cannon and Lonesome Lake 9/11/12

John, what an incredible experience and very nice write up. Good luck with the blog - looks great, and like the idea of writing about the adventures later on.

Vermont 4000 Footers in Two Days 9/8/12-9/9/12

Thanks Owen, as always!! Jake - Thank you, and for taking the time to comment - appreciate it! When we hit the Battell Trail from the Long Trail, it appeared as if the Battell Trail was an old logging route to the summit. If it was the same from the trail head, I imagine the gain and hike is...

Vermont 4000 Footers in Two Days 9/8/12-9/9/12

Tim - Thank you for posting that. Very interesting to see it that way. I've got to do more of that. Makes me remember the last section, where it goes down, then back up a little bit to the road. The top parts are pretty flat, and we almost missed the sign(s) for Nancy Hanks Peak because we were...

Vermont 4000 Footers in Two Days 9/8/12-9/9/12

Thanks very much, Marty. Indeed it was. Every hike was enjoyable. We questioned that elevation, but found most online sources to indicate 1,600. We only had the GMC Long Trail map. It seems I've just found some trip reports that say 3500', so I've put it at that for now. Thank you for noting...

Vermont 4000 Footers in Two Days 9/8/12-9/9/12

This past weekend my brother and I did the 5 VT 4000 footers in a weekend. What fun it was to do this in a weekend. We completed the task doing two hikes Saturday, and two hikes Sunday, going North to South. The two short hikes first, two longer hikes second. The driving directions were most...

    A Bond-ing Backpack - 8/23 & 8/24//12

Mark, great report! Spectacular stuff as always, especially sunset on West Bond. I really enjoyed reading about your overnight experience, and was happy that it turned out perfectly and it sure looked like you and Nat enjoyed this one. I didn't see this one coming so quickly after your Baxter...

    A Presidential Finish

Congratulations on an incredible and quick journey over the 48! Gotta love the Presidential completion. There's no better way to do it, and I'm sure it was fantastic spending more than a day up there. Absolutely love the "mars" shot. That's sweet. Good luck this winter! I see the 0/48 waiting...

One Day Extended Pemi Loop 8-18-12

Thanks!! Sure was a good one with a lot of different conditions. Thanks Mark. I don't think I could do anything much longer than this in one day, so this is likely the most extreme distance in a day for me! I wish I could say it was easy, but at the end of the day when you feel the pain, you...

Last on the List, A Vacation Tale

Congratulations on the finish! Those are great photos, and looks like mostly great weather for you. Its always fantastic seeing a rainbow, and the photo-shopped cliff hanger is just perfect. Last weekend on the Bonds, I also saw the birds flying all around. It looks like a huge dragonfly paid...

One Day Extended Pemi Loop 8-18-12

Hi Donna, It was indeed my longest day-hike ever. I had some English muffins and juice as I left the house in the morning, followed by 24oz of water for the ride up. In my pack for yummies, I had the following: 3 Snickers bars 3 Nature Valley Recharge bars 2 Clif Power Gels 1 Vanilla Protein...

One Day Extended Pemi Loop 8-18-12

On Saturday, August 18th, I completed a one-day extended Pemi Loop, including twelve of the 4000 footers. The morning started out great, with moving clouds over the Franconia Ridge, at times revealing a beautiful undercast. I started this endeavor leaving the Lincoln Woods lot at 2:30am. My goal...

Dancing On the Edges of Knives - Mt Katahdin - 8/14/12

Mark, Great job! I love your photos. Every angle you look along this hike is just so impressive. Your photos capture them all. Clearly your nerves were all gone early and you had a blast, so I'm happy that you and Nat got a great weather day to complete the Knife Edge.

Climbing Katahdin via stellar Cathedral Trail down Hamlin 7-12-12

Great pictures and hike. The Chimney was definitely the most interesting part of the Knife Edge. I was also slowed way down by the terrain, as it was much more difficult that some of the steep trails in the Whites. I would also agree on your description of "scrambling" and using all fours...

    energy bars

I don't have a favorite energy bar, but I usually will carry up to 5 energy bars on any hike, and something like combos or a little bit of trail mix for a more lunch-like snack if the hike calls for it. I definitely like Snickers on the trail, and on several recent hikes, one has found its way...

    NH 48 speed record

Congrats on an incredible effort, it was exciting to follow, and thank you for sharing it. I can't imagine how exciting it must be, one hike to the next....and the thought of doing anything in addition to a Presi Traverse in one day is amazing. -Dan

Hi Rup, Your best bet would to start with a google images search for the Hunt Trail up Mt. Katahdin. The Hunt Trail is the last part of the AT up to Katahdin. Also, you can check this trip report.
