Middle Jay? North Jay? NE Glastenbury? N Glastenbury?

North Jay is the peak just north of Doll Peak. There was not a herd path to the summit from the LT that we saw. When I was going through the LT in that section, a fellow hiker did the North Jay bushwhack (I did not.) The spot he went in, at least, did not have a herd path... nor did I see one...

    AMC online WMG launches 8/23/07

I was a Beta tester too. They had a survey at the end that asked how you felt about different subscription rates... all were less than $20 per year. I also had the impression that they were going to offer a free version as well with very limited functionality... basically only good for trip...

    Guyot Shelter questions

There aren't any bunks in the shelter... you either sleep on the floor or on the loft area. There are no mattresses so you are right that you'll need sleeping pads. Just walk in and claim a spot if the caretaker isn't there. He/She will be around later to collect the money. When I've stayed in...

Mt. Greylock Bernard Farm Tr. Plane Wreckage

You don't indicate where you searched... but I've had good luck in the past finding info on airline wreckage here: http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/query.asp Edited to add: I think I've found it. Here's a report of a crash on Mt. Fitch in Sept. 1988. Click here - Ivy

    Pack on airplane?

I would definitely recommend getting a duffle for it.... we use a couple of duffles I bought on sale at Beans which are huge and work great. Like Giggy said, we leave the packs empty and stuff it and everything else into the duffle. I used to fly without using a duffle, making sure to secure...

    flying with gas stoves

I'll add a third.... I've flown with my stove many times and never had a problem (both in continental U.S. flights and international ones.) I just clean it as best I can and place it in my checked baggage. I've never had an issues. I usually fly with my alcohol stove but I've also brought my...

    Paddle 2.0 ?

Thanks for getting my kayak out on a paddle away from my "home" lake for the first time. It was great to catch up with Sherpa K and meet a whole bunch of new people too. :) It was a great way to unwind after a busy work day. I hope my work schedule will allow me to attend another in the future...

Selfish egomaniacs destroy fragile habitat on Katahdin.

I was thinking the same thing... if I arrived at BSP to find someone parked in my spot, I would go straight to the rangers.... I would have assumed there was some sort of mix up and the shelter was double booked or something. I would be surprised if a ranger wouldn't walk over and take down a...

    Baldface/Royce Range traverse 6/16/07

This was a really great hike -- I just wish I didn't miss out on the best views. But work and a headache conspired against me on this one. Thanks Rocksnrolls for organizing this... I was glad to get a chance to hike in the Baldface area again after a long absence. There were lots of...

Parking near AT in Norwich, VT or Hanover, NH

When we hiked that section, we parked in a lot at Dartmouth College (though it was just an overnight trip.) We called the Dartmouth Outing Club and they directed us to the particular lot- (it changes if I recall correctly) they were very nice and helpful. - Ivy
