    Amc Ftfc?

I sent in my hundred highest application during the first week of September and heard back by mid-October. Based on previous applications, it does seem to take longer the later in the fall you send it in... I assume because they are getting more applications at that time of year. - Ivy

    Book Recommendations for John Muir

Another option would be "The Wilderness World of John Muir," edited by Edwin Way Teale. It is a collection of stories from many of Muir's works, so it will give you a taste of everything. Based upon what I enjoyed in Teale's book, I checked out Muir's "The Mountains of California" from the...

Suggestions for day/overnight hikes in New Zealand?

Are you going to the North Island or South Island? I've only been to the South Island so stop reading here if you're North Island bound. :) It's hard to go wrong hiking in NZ, because the scenery is incredibly stunning. We used Lonely Planet's "Tramping in New Zealand" guidebook to plan our...

    A few Q's about Vermont

Lincoln Gap Road is closed... though it isn't gated... it just has a sign in the middle of the road that says it's closed. If the roads aren't icy, you can get to Lincoln Gap without a problem... if they are icy you should avoid driving on it because Lincoln Gap is located on a long hill that...

    Sawyer River Road conditions?

The Forest Service Web site is still listing Sawyer River Road as open... just curious, has anyone been out there since Saturday's snowfall and can confirm the road is still drive-able? I do have 4WD but I get nervous about getting stuck anyway. - Ivy

    Picture Sharing Site Help, (please).

My new favorite is phanfare (you can check out my albums at http://ivy.phanfare.com It's a pay site ($54 per year or $300 for a lifetime membership.) It was really difficult for me to decide to pay for a photo site but this one is really worth it. It is super easy to use and I think the...

    List rules?

Not in winter... in winter your hike has to start at the point you can drive to on that day. So you could ride your bike to a gated road but no further... because on that day a car could not drive down the road. At least that's the way I understand it. - Ivy

Adventure on the Osceolas - 12/9/06

Thanks for a fun day out in the woods, and congrats on #45, rocksnrolls. :) I didn't take very many pictures this time since the weather was kind of crappy... (I'm sure I'm going to see the views from Osceola one day...) Here's a link to the few pictures I took, however. I hope to try this...

help on hiking / snowshoe poles

I personally did not have great luck with the Komperdells... they broke fairly quickly and the locking mechanism stopped working well. I went through two sets (plus using the two leftover poles together, so it was like having three sets, kind of.) I've had other people tell me that I'm tough on...

A Mt. Washington sunrise hike - Nov. 11

We couldn’t have been blessed with better weather for our planned night hike of Mt. Washington on Saturday -- with fairly warm temperatures and the stars glittering overhead like diamonds in a clear sky. Ever wanted to own a RMC trail sign?

LOL... I had this conversation with my husband yesterday after I told him I bid on a sign. He said, "You realize that everyone is going to think you ripped it off a tree, right?" :D - Ivy
