    Catskill Camping Suggestions...

Jay has a good idea. There's some beautiful spots to camp on the left side of the trail maybe an 8th of a mile before the Huckleberry Point ledges. It has some type of short scrub pines, soft needles for bedding, and fire pits. I've often thought of doing this and getting out early on the ledges...

    BLM and Woodpecker Ridge

Hey Tom, nice report. Must have been a beautiful morning. Wondering if your views included low clouds and fog in the valleys below the perfectly blue skies up top? My drive down Bramley Mtn. in Delaware County, on my way to hike Hunter, was just that. Perfect blue skies with thick fog in the...

    Bear encounter in Connecticut

I remember reading about hunters on Kodiak Island that were being mauled by grizzlies as they approached the Elk or what ever they just shot. The bears became accustomed to the sound of gunfire and equated it with fresh food and would quickly get to the kill before the hunters did.

    Bear encounter in Connecticut

Talk about smart humans/dogs...I once had a neighbor who over a period of a few years, had three different dogs. All three were killed by cars. I don't think any of them got it!

I Am the King of Putting My Foot in My Mouth

I've always had perfect timing, and one hike comes to mind. A few years back I had an early start after a two day dumping of snow on Hunter mtn., and hadn't seen a soul all morning. After breaking through deep powder, traveling above 3500 ft, and having the whole mountain to myself, I suddenly...

    Cat tales from the Catskills......

Hey Freddy thanx for the cool article. I've heard of sightings in the Catskills and ADKs, but New Jersey? I guess it's all possible. What is amazing though is that no official would show up for DNA tests. Either they allready know, or don't want to know of their presence. We'll just have to keep...

Wow, my daughter needs Peek and Table for her 35. If the weather wasn't so bad we would have been up there. Curious to hear the details. Very sad.

Coldfeet and Kids at Baxter 8/15

Ah, there you are David! Wow, looks like a great trip. Glad your kids got the chance to see such a place. The past couple years I've been saying "I'm dragging my gang up there", just have a hard time planning far ahead I guess. Just gotta do it and hope the weather cooperates. Thanx for sharing...

Ugliest, scariest animal I've ever seen

I'm sorry if anyone was offended, that was not my intent for sure. Whitelief's "that's my mother" and my responce was a sequence from a movie(a joke). Just took the ball and ran with it a little. Again, I'm sorry and would not make fun at someone elses expence.

A new perspective and a farewell to the mountains

Wow, what a great report Sleeping Bear! I have a similar situation with one of my sons, and it takes a bit of doing to get a hike in with him, but is so super rewarding when we do finally make our destination. Michael has done some 2-3 mile hikes up moderate slopes but this week he climbed his...
