This morning, Mt. Washington was under a huge, thick cloud system. This afternoon it cleared and I saw white stuff down to about 5000' or so. It's not solid cover, rocks still showing, but.....yeeeeeeeehawwwwww!!!!

Happy Trails :)

At about 2 PM I was on the summit of Carrigain and wondered whether I was actually seeing white stuff on Mt. Washington.

Today I wore long nylon pants (first time this season), and hiked with fleece almost half way up the Desolation Trail. On the summit I wore fleece and Gortex on top of my long sleeved polypro, put on hood and fleece mittens.

I also could see the snow on Washington all the way, today, from Plymouth Mtn, Pymouth, NH. Pretty far away.

Just got back from BSP tonight, because of snow yesterday, all the trails to Katahdin from the east were closed today. While bushwacking N. Turner yesterday, I saw some sleet, snow and rain. Summer is a memory up there.

We went up Mt Washington via Boott Spur on Friday, September 22nd. There were small patches of snow from about 5,000 ft. The rime had accumulated to about 3 inches thick. When we there, it was melting quick. On the summit, the snow and rime were thicker and the wind was blowing pretty good. It was funny though, there really wasn't much until we climbed the stairs from the parking lot.

I'm think that summers over. :D

There was some snow left from Thursday today on the Knife Edge, just enough to make a small snowball. :D
