It's all in a name -- in praise of taxonomy

Interesting article. Thanks for pointing it out. I liked the last sentence..."Because once you start noticing organisms, once you have a name for particular beasts, birds and flowers, you can’t help seeing life and the order in it, just where it has always been, all around you."

    sweat gets in my eyes

I didn’t take it that way. I just wanted to add some options with links. The original post asked about reducing sweat in the eyes (not stopping sweat, who sweats the most, or whatever else has been added here). Several nice suggestions have been made and hopefully one will work for the OP...

    sweat gets in my eyes

I didn't have time to add any links when I posted but I currently have a hat by Columbia that works great. It is similar to this style. Many other companies make wicking hats as seen here on Backcountry.com

    VFTT peak list

I have edited the first post again as a recent hike revealed that Whiteface Mt. in the Belknap Range does not have a 360 view. It had been more than a few years since I was there and the growth of trees has made quite a difference. As always any additions or corrections are welcome.

    WODC Outlook, May 2009

I have been a volunteer trail maintainer with the LRCT for several years. I am acquainted with much of the issues being discussed regarding the Ossipee range in and outside of the Trust properties. First, I will say that the Ossipee’s have held the interest of many, myself included, and many...

Looking for hiking boots that work well in wet/slippery conditions

I have used several brands of trail runners and boots. Since I pretty much only use trail runners once the snow is gone I’ll only comment on those. I have been satisfied with the grip of Salomon Contragrip, LaSportiva FriXion (maybe my favorite so far), and a current pair of Montrail (it says GT...
