Previously on Lost - in the Belknaps?

I’ll add a few comments since my name was brought up. :D First, being that since I was in Vermont, I wouldn’t have been much help. Second that these suggestions are for anyone reading this thread. I agree with Jeremy. If following the yellow blazes was easiest than that would be the best route...

Updated Trail Bandit Ossipee Mountains Map & Ossipee 10 List Update

Tobit: Last I knew the beginning of the Bald Knob trail is sparsely blazed (some blue if I recall). It is usually easy enough to follow until you hit the Trust boundary line and then it is blazed in white. From the Bald Knob (with the carriage platform) you continue on the carriage roads...

Brief Report of a Trek to Bayle & Bald Mountain in the Ossipees: (20-Nov-2008)

“In 1931, Louise Kingsley and Marland P. Billings characterized the unusual geological story that sets the Ossipees apart from the rest of the state in an article in the American Journal of Science, Cauldron subsidence of the Ossipee Mountains. The “cauldron subsidence” of this ring dike complex...

GPS and the North American blackout of 1965

I was hiking on 8/19/99 and 8/23/99. Didn't have a GPS then and don't have one now. In '65 we built a fire in the fireplace and hoped my brother made it home safe from his new job at the mall.

    Southern Ossipees (NH) Traverse, 11/16/08

What a great first post! I remember the first time I met up with others from online for a hike. The things that go through you head...

    Research for a book

There is a rest area off I-91 just north of Bradford, Vt that has an excellant view of Moosilauke and surroundings (and perhaps the Kinsman Ridge-it was too cloudy to be sure).

    Southern Ossipees (NH) Traverse, 11/16/08

I'm enjoying all the reports and pictures trickling in and I'm glad the hike was enjoyable for all. Like the Belknap Range, I don't think I will ever tire of the Ossipees. After playing around there for several years now there is still so much more to see and enjoy.

    Hiking close to home

Don't write-off the Belknaps just because you’ve done Major. Straightback Mtn., great view, is easily reached from Jesus Valley Road or the Major parking lot. Piper, great view, is easily reached from the Carriage Road. Gunstock, great view, is easily reached from the Carriage Road or the ski...

Don't remember where I got it but I got a Katahdin benchmark tie-tack for my husband when we finished the NE67.

can anybody look at their Atlas Snowshoes for me ?

I can tell you that the binding system has held up very well on both my Atlas 12 series. They have taken a lot of abuse over many winters and the only rivet needing replacing was one on the bottom of the binding. The strap rivets are intact. The strap itself is a rubber-over-rope type material...

    Arbor Saw Bliss

My husband made me a nice sheath / scabbard out of a piece of vinyl siding. Folded with rivets or duct tape works well and is lightweight.

    Mini-Report for a Mini-Hike: East Ponds (04-Nov-2008)

It doesn't sound like you encountered a mess of blowdown on the link between the ponds as I have read about in the past. That sounds promising.

It's a nice time of year to hike along the lower ridges (yes, the ones with decidious trees :) ), Squam, Ossipee, Kilkenny for example.

    Research for a book

I wasn’t sure how serious the book idea was until I was informed by a fan of yours. ;) To answer your questions regarding my post and share some more details I offer: Durgin Road (shown in previous post) [view of Tate (Ball), Black Snout peak, Shaw, Flagg] is in Tuftonboro (there is also a good...

    Research for a book

This is of great interest to me as that is one of the things I collect – views. Having the advantage of cruising the state (and beyond) on a motorcycle is helpful. So many places to list!! Some are easily found as hikers head to or from the mountains: Rt. 93 – entrance to and parking lot at...

Updated Trail Bandit Ossipee Mountains Map & Ossipee 10 List Update

The Belknap range maps at the libraries and in the book are the same. The original Ossipee map (made by the same person) was shared briefly before the official LRCT version was printed. I was requested not to distribute copies of that map and have honored that request but have shared information...
