Reckless endangerment of impressionable children -- the sequel

The program sounds fascinating. As a parent, I would be happy to send my kids to a program that encouraged the love of the outdoors and an ability to adapt to changing weather conditions... oh, wait a minute... that's part of why I hike with them ;) Silly me. No, really, I think the program...

    Rattlesnake Mountain (Rumney) 4/21/10

There is still a small hiker's lot. Its up the road from the big climber's lot. The trail from that lot is nice, easy to follow, and a good workout for a short hike. As far as views to effort ratio - this one's a gem. When you get to the loop at the top, go right first and you'll be climbing...

    Morgan/Percival parking lot questions

I could probably be convinced to take a side trip over there this week if you're looking for conditions for the weekend... Just let me know if that would be helpful.

    Morgan/Percival parking lot questions

Yes, parking along the road is legal - you just have to be all the way off the roadway. I'm actually suprised to hear that the new big lot is closed too - it appeared to have good drainage... But, maybe they're closing it to limit traffic on the trails. Anyway, have fun, be ready for mud, and...

    Morgan/Percival parking lot questions

Also an fyi - they close the Morgan/Percival lot during mud season. You can still hike them - you just have to park in the lot on the other side of the road. And be gentle, the trail gets really muddy in the spring.

    Blown off Mt Clay!

The wind was definately vicious up there today. We turned around before treeline because of it. The winds were higher than forecasted. (at least higher than what the MWOBS forecast at the Highland Center had listed) Glad you are ok. The 5 hikers that you speak of did get off safely. There...

Where to stay to hike Mt. Moosilauke

There's the Federal House Inn in Plymouth (right on the Rumney line). Its a locally owned B&B - less than 20 minutes to the trailhead. Not sure of the price point, but good to support the local economy.
