I was up at Fourth Connecticut lake at the Canadian border over the weekend and the foliage up there was amazing, perhaps the best I've ever seen. The deep blue sky and abundant sunshine had a lot to do with it, the colors were eye-popping.

Mosquitoes attack me voraciously but rarely bother my wife. I am admittedly a much larger person than she. On the other hand, black flies torture her mercilessly and don't seem to bite me too often. I'm not sure which of us has the better deal.

Don't quite know why, but Passaconaway has always been one of my favorites in NH. There's just something about that mountain that draws me to it.

I don't recall where I acquired it, but I've had a printed version of that map for some time.

I like the view of Passaconaway from the ledges on Hedgehog, Franconia ridge from Lonesome Lake, Monroe from high on the Crawford Path, view toward Washington from Isolation, Chocourua from Chocourua Lake....this could be a really long list.

I am getting over bronchitis but not before it cost me a four day weekend in NH over MLK weekend. Instead of fun in the snow in NH it was a long weekend of coughing at home.

Many years ago I was wandering around some narrow paths above the water at Beavertail on Jamestown RI. It was a fairly busy summer day and the place was crowded. My son was only 4 or 5 at the time and we were walking along a path above the rocks along shore when a crowd of people ahead of us...

I am thankful to be hiking again, even if the hikes are smaller ones (for now). Thankful to be hiking with old friends again, and thankful for all the great photos and trip reports on this site that cheered me up throughout a hikeless 2011.
