    Moose Yearling on the Kanc

<bump> Something's definitely up in Mooseland... I have now had four "close encounters" in just over a week... one young cow (I think) in a wallow off Tripoli Road, two sitings on Rt 49 (Tuesday AM and Wednesday PM last week), and the topper on Sunday AM, when I looked out my back window to...

    How tough is Tecumseh?

Tim's right on -- and I often use the "<< View" sign as a bail-out for a one-hour loop with kids... the walk through the woods up till there is really pretty, with just one minor brook crossing. If you got to the steeps and decided to bail, this would work fine for you or Max. Note: if you...

    How tough is Tecumseh?

I haven't got much of worth to add other than my vote for descending via the ski slope (so starting at the ski area), as it's good views most of the way down AND... - Consider trekking poles if footing is a concern... it's by no means a tough descent, but I found the footing on the work-road...

Arrest Made In Recent Car Break-ins

It also makes you wonder, are pickings so slim in Middleton MA, that you drive up to northern NH to pull a bunch of B&Es? Maybe he was on a busman's holiday... you know, get out of town, make a weekend of it, steal from a whole new audience, maybe take in the breath-taking views of Pinkham...

an example of the value of NH F&G

Actually, Chip, I really like the idea of a (reasonably priced) "Outdoor user's fee" that would potentially encompass hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, mountain biking and other forms of back-country access. Economically, if we spread the load more broadly, the fees could potentially be lower...

    Highways in the Whites

Definitely, Wardsgirl... I was in college at PSC then, and was (in my young/dumb way) more or less against the whole idea of the parkway... partially because I liked it the way it was, and partially because I had heard some abstract discussion that the vibration from construction or more truck...

No, not me... I have seen that one, too, though... I think he's referring to "Dark Knight", the Batman series, as you mentioned. On the other hand, there are those who think of me as a dark, occasionally stormy, knight. I mostly drive a little blue Volvo wagon, license plate ELLIE-K (my...

    March 2nd Snowstorm

I can't believe I am about to say this, but UGH. I am supposed to be in Boston at 9am tomorrow, and in Marlborough, MA in the afternoon. Fat flipping chance of that working. See, this is why I strongly prefer when the snow falls where we can use it, and not where it's just a nuisance.

    4 Corners (AZ/NM/CO/UT) info?

12-year-old data but... My wife and I went on a babymoon (I think that's the technical term -- she was 6 months pregnant with our first child) to NM 12 years ago in, er, March I think. We flew into Albuquerque, but spent no time there, opting instead to head up to Santa Fe and, briefly, Taos...

    Coyotes

FWIW, they're also capable of hunting much larger things in a pack configuration. You knew that, of course, but at the risk of repeating myself: Two Septembers ago, we were sitting out by the firepit of a cool early fall night in "downtown" Waterville Valley. It was just about sunset, and...

    Winter Storm Watch Wed>Thurs (2/18-19)

And that 5-10" is looking more like 10-20". The Weds-Fri snows made all the difference on the slopes today. Unfortunately, the <10 degree temps and winds blowing in the 30s and above did nothing to dampen the crowds. And Mike... "small and soft" did NOT describe the bumps on Ciao today...

    Here-We-Go-Again Heavy Snow Warning 2/22-23

I was just checking all the usual outlets... the different linear snowfall models are all over the map on this one, from 18"+ in the southern Whites to the normally-wild GFS Snowfall at 4". In the mean time, the recently-conservative Weather.com report has settled on 11 to 18". Brace...

My mistake, Mike... you clearly aren't missing out on the "winter experience" this year!

    Winter Storm Watch Wed>Thurs (2/18-19)

Nice burst of snow mid-morning (thank you, upslope!) has brought the WV total up another three-four inches... By my reckoning on the valley floor (1500 feet), about 8" fresh. WV resort just reported a storm total of 11". Come on up --M, it's still full-on winter up here.

New Peakbagging Club - NH 48 in 48 (yrs)

Darn, I thought I finally found a list I might have a crack at -- 48 highest by my 48th birthday (which is just under two years way). That seemed pretty doable. Something tells me finishing Owl's Head at 94 isn't going to be much of a plan.

    Winter Storm Watch Wed>Thurs (2/18-19)

Kind of a fizzle up here, too, Mohamed... I would say there are about 4-5" on the ground, though Waterville Valley resort is reporting 7" new snow up on Tecumseh. It looks quite light and fluffy, at least -- so it doesn't seem like there was any mixed precip overnight. It's still snowing...

    Winter Storm Watch Wed>Thurs (2/18-19)

Starting snowing just north of Concord at about 6pm, and was snowing heavily in Tilton at 7pm. There were about half a dozen cars off the road on 93 North between Tilton and Campton (though honestly, the roads weren't that bad, yet anyway). 27 degrees and snowing moderately in Waterville...

New product for women on the go

Now we can expect to see a lot more women's names scribed in yellow in snow-banks. Progress is breaking out everywhere.

    Winter Storm Watch Wed>Thurs (2/18-19)

Pack computer to work from home Thursday... check. Make a run on the milk and bread section at Market Basket... check. :D Yeehah! We could definitely use some fresh, and the timing couldn't be better. Sabrina, be careful with your travel planning if you're going to make a run north... looks...
