The Marshall Plan, my Winter 46r finish 2-16-09

Mega congrats Jay!! And to finish with such a beautiful day! Good move to take advantage of the weather. Did I see ski tracks in some of those photos :-) Maria

Best road from Marcy Dam to Mt Mansfield in Vermont

Take the Champlain Bridge at Crown Point in NY. The ferries do run in the winter, but the bridge is faster and, by the time you get off the mt and over there, they may have stopped for the night.

VFTT Shirts - which design do you like?

Anything but white is great by me and I agree about a "girl" option or a v-neck. I like having more room around my neck, especially in the summer. Maria

    Indian Head & Twin 1-17-09

Yes, great day to be out there and nice to meet more VFTT folks since I'm kind of new to the group. My first 3500 snowshoe and it was much fun. And see Jay, I have changed my avatar :-) Maria

A weekend of Not-Rain in the ADKs

Well, funny, but we watched Last of the Mohicans up there and, while it supposedly takes place in the Dacks, it actually was filmed in NC. Some gorgeous spots you have down in your neck of the woods! Maria

A weekend of Not-Rain in the ADKs

Definitely beautiful up there and good to meet some VFTTers in the process! Yes Jay, I do have my share of orphans on my list but that way you can give me a hard time for a while yet, which you so enjoy doing :) . If only I'd known about this crazy 46er thing when I did Whiteface last...

    National Geographic - Tuesday

National Geographic - Monday Note - this is on Monday - typed too fast this morning. Editing doesn't let me change what shows up in the main thread. Hi - I know this isn't a hiking documentary (or the kayak forum), but I thought there might be some folks interested in the below and wanted to...

    Raquette Lake area hiking

Thanks again everyone - wish I could do a trip report, but there was an unexpected illness (better now) in my family so I had to cancel that part of my trip. I'll be in the adks for 10 days early August, so maybe I'll head over there then. Maria

    ADK peak-bagging weekend: 3 bugs, 9 summits and 1 sore foot (7/4 - 7/6)

Great shots and trip HuiYeng - congrats. Btw, I hike with Jay a lot too and he's always waiting for me at the top when we hit a tough hill, so I know that feeling! Our nickname for him is Mountain Goat :-) Maria

    Raquette Lake area hiking

Thanks. I should be able to pick up the adk book for that area tomorrow and will check your ideas out and let you know what we decide to do - my friend is up in Saranac Lake so we're trying to find something convenient for both of us. I am heading back home to westchester county, so this...

    Raquette Lake area hiking

Hi - I'm going to be driving back on Monday after the July 4th weekend from the Syracuse area through the lower adks and want to meet up with a friend for a hike in this area. I really only know the high peaks and northwestern adks. Any suggestions for a 6 mile or so hike to break up the...

    Snowshoe advice

Ok, to answer the question of what I want to use them for. Well, as I said I'm really new to winter hiking - but think ultimately I will want to do the same kind of terrain in winter that I do in other seasons: Adks, Catkskills, VT, local stuff here in Rockland/Putnam counties if we ever get...

    Snowshoe advice

I was wondering about the men/women versions out there - whether it was a marketing ploy or it's better to go with gender specific vs. unisex. Thanks for the feedback and MSR does seem like the way to go. I'm not sure if I'll find them on sale, but better to pay for higher quality.

    Snowshoe advice

Hi there - Now that the winter sales are here, I'm looking to invest in some snowshoes. I was more of a xc skier and downhiller before, but I'm beginning to explore winter hiking too and obviously need them. Tried out a Redfeather pair last weekend but the binding was this strappy kind and...

Nov 4th Norwalk, CT VFTT Beer and "The Alps"

Nice to meet all of you too! I also thought the sound was super strident - someone must have said something after our showing. Besides that liked the film - just thought it a bit strange how they glossed over the final stretch of the climb. I was expecting a bit more footage of when they...

Nov 4th Norwalk, CT VFTT Beer and "The Alps"

Hi there - new member here, though I've known Jay for a while. I'm in Norwalk Sunday morning for work but can join you around 1 to meet up and see the film. Sounds fun and, as much as I've been in Norwalk, haven't checked out the Imax there yet. Maria
