    Do we want more snow?

No More Snow Saw 2 major accidents yesterday on the Everett in NH and one in Chelmsford, and it hadn't even really snowed much, and there was no traffic at 7:30 AM. We had maybe an inch or little more of the white stuff! I have had it, I am ready to put on my shorts and run and hike...

Lots of Rescues - Taking Stock

Beg to differ- suffer a significant injury while in the woods, go to the hospital, and expect a form to arrive in your mailbox shortly thereafter asking you where it happened, and wanting a full explanation, as it did to me. Expect the form to say you could be liable for paying for the cost if...

Lots of Rescues - Taking Stock

One thing is for sure- if someones charged for a rescue it will head directly to court! A breakdown of the actual cost of a rescue would benefit all. What exactly are you being charged for: 1. Blackhawk: training time, covered in the DOD budget. Already paid for. 2. Volunteer rescuers: if...

    Study: Northeast winters warming fast

No testing was ever conducted in France, also no public knowledge of any major leaks or that type of event in France. But where do they store the waste??? Rough guess is Africa. France conducted nuclear testing in Algeria until 1966. They switched over to French Polynesia and conducted...

    Study: Northeast winters warming fast

Dr. D- Your exactly right about ethanol. If your poor and living in Mexico you had to live through food riots because they can't buy tortillas - because the corn is being sent north to us so we can have "cheaper, better gas"!! The link is here, hopefully it works...

    Study: Northeast winters warming fast

Well put Rocket, good comments. One thing about winter in New England, never the same, always changing, always different. Last year the ski areas were all crying, this year thankfully, I don't have to hear them lamenting on every TV news show. Seems like they'll make up for last year...

    Safety in hiking

They negotiated the death penalty away in Georgia to locate Meredith and get the details of what happened, but Florida and NC are a different story. Florida's investigation will take a different track, and in Florida they do use the death penalty on a regular basis. If he is tied to the 2...

    missing hiker - body found

What happened to this woman is horrible, we all travel to the woods and hope to escape this type of thing and leave it in the city. :( My condolences go to her friends and family. Steve- On that note your correct, we are not a going to the grocery store website. In fact you can order thru...

    Add 'em up!

For me it was a pretty weak hiking year. :( My weakest on record for me, only 8 peaks total. I focused much more on running and taking care of work issues and family matters this year. For 2008 I plan on finishing the NE67 and grabbing more NEHH peaks, and just doing some fun hikes.

"Hiking" Manhattan for the Macy's Parade

Hello Kitty Balloon! My wife and I were parade participants for the second year in a row. We were balloon holders for the HELLO KITTY Balloon!!! :) It was an awesome time, and totally different weather than 2006. I don't think I saw a bare patch of sidewalk from 79th street to 34th...

Window smashed at Ethan Pond TH today

Concur on this one. Best thing to do is take it with you or leave it home. Leave nothing of value in the car, including the registration, insurance, etc, and especially not your wallet with license, credit cards, medical insurance info, etc. AND just the thought of having to go to...
