Watch out in the short slide you will encounter in the upper section. It is very slippery under wet conditions. Have a great hike!

White Cap & Kennebago Divide bushwhack -- 8/6/05

Onestep, Thanks for the directions. I must have an old version of the Gazeteer cause the road you describe after leaving Lincoln Pond Rd stops at the Little Kennebago Lake on my map. Audrey, I know what you mean. I don't want to damage the Element so we'll decide depending on road conditions...

White Cap & Kennebago Divide bushwhack -- 8/6/05

Harryk, Nathalie and myself are heading that way this weekend. I was looking at the Delorme Gazeteer trying to work a way to bypass the Wiggle Brook road from the east. Did you guys follow Burnt Mountain road from the Morton Cutoff all the way to Wiggle Brook Rd and then heading north on Bear...

Glad to hear you had an easier time then we did. These avatars of Harryk are even scarier then Sherpa John in a bikini. :) :D

    Hiking in Kananaskis Alberta

I have done a few dayhikes in the area in September of 2003. First, check with the visitor center at the entrance of Peter Lougheed Prov. Park. It is located a few miles south of Kananaskis Village off route 40. The rangers there are avid hikers and will recommand great hikes for your skill...

Presi Traverse 6/18: Good, Bad, and Ugly!

Nat and I had a great time despite the weather and my little accident. It's always nice to meet up with the VFTT family. Hand is healing very well. Turns out it was cut at 7 different places, nothing too deep but I pretty much used up my entire first aid kit. Looking forward to give it...

    GPS mileage versus actual

When I run into this type of problem I usually reroute power from the deflector dish to the sensor array and run a level 2 diagnostic using a tachyon beam. Usually gives me a pretty accurate reading of the distance unless, of course, if you have superstring emissions from the rolling tachyon...

    NH 4000 ft Awards

Yes it was an elbow allright. I could hardly keep up with him at Brewery. :D Nat and I had a great time. It was well worth the long drive. Always nice to see the "family" again. Congratulations to all. P.S. Harryk...we got to see the ocean... ;)

    looking for a BIG pack

I highly recommand Osprey packs. The Crescent 110 should do the trick for you: http://www.ospreypacks.com/crescent_110.htm I have a Crescent 90 that I have loaded up to 72lbs for a traverse of the Groulx Mountains and it did not flinch and remained very comfortable for the entire expedition.

    Jay Range (NY)

I'd be interested in hiking the Jay Range in April. My understanding is that these are trailless peaks with only a faint herdpath. Does anybody know where the herdpath starts? Can this hike be done as a loop or we need to spot another car? How long of a hike is it? Any information or advice...

    Going to Kilimanjaro

Desalad, My girlfriend Nathalie and I climbed Kilimanjaro in December 2002 and it was a fantastic experience and definitely easier than we had anticipated. We climbed Meru and Little Meru a few days prior for acclimatization and I'm sure it helped a lot. I would recommand staying away from the...

    Bare Booting

Bridgeman is right. When the snow cover is less than 8 inches snowshoes are not mandatory (which was the case last Saturday) so you were ok. I was there the same day and our group took off the snowshoes at Avalanche leanto and we did not posthole once. As you mention, snowshoes were actually...
