    logs on Mt Eisenhower

That was what we suspected. Any reason why the Forest Service hasn't removed the fallen trees in the trails? There were at least four big one on the lower part of the trail. I'm guessing they're short crew and plenty of trails to work on.

    Mt Eisenhower

Date of Hike: June 2, 2008 Trail Conditions: the trail was wet from all the rain on Sat. There were alot of blowdowns on the lower part of the trail. There was some snow a little passed the gate-was easy to walk on the side of the snow. Special Equipment Required: No special equipment needed...

    logs on Mt Eisenhower

Today I hiked Mt Eisenhower and there were several loads of logs stacked near the top. Does anyone know what they are for and how they got there? I'm guessing a helicopter must have downloaded them there. Thanks, Skibones

rainy spring day in the Sandwich Range Wilderness

The pictures are great. I think you are an inspiration to those of us that love to get up to the peak and quickly get down and not realize how much we are missing by lingering and listening. I think you saw more in one day than most of us see in a season of hiking. Again I loved the pictures...

    X-C on Tripoli Road

Three of us skied up Tripoli Road today. It started off with icy conditions and softened up. By the time we got to the Osceola Trailhead it was nice cornsnow. The ride down Tripoli to East Pond trail was a smooth ride--all downhill. There was only one bear spot where we had to take off our skis...

    X-C on Tripoli Road

Thanks. I was more interested in the part of Tripoli from Osceola Trailhead to the Lincoln side. If you know anyone that has done the East Pond Trail recently that would help also. The temps last night went down to 30-32 at the house so maybe that will help keep the snow on the trails a little...

    X-C on Tripoli Road

Has anyone recently skied Tripoli Road from the Lincoln side? We were planning on doing a backcountry ski trip from Waterville up Tripoli Road and over to East Pond and I was wondering how the coverage was on the other end of Waterville.

Skier, 80, out of the woods

He sounds like quite an athlete-skiing 100 days a year at 80 years old! Glad it had a happy ending.

    Threedom ski pass

I skied Loon yesterday and the conditions were good. It got soft later in the day, but there were hardly any bare spots. If anyone is interested in X-C skiing, Waterville's trails in the north end are great even though they are not groomed. Today I went up Livermore to the top of Snow's...

    Threedom ski pass

Did anyone hear if you can use your Loon/Waterville Threedom pass at Sunday River and Sugarloaf over the next two weeks? Someone at Waterville told me this today-but it was the first time I heard about it. They said that Sunday River was trying to lure skiers to buy their pass instead of the...

Jeepers, creepers, we've got those peepers

The only thing that I hear is ice falling off the roof. I don't think we'll hear peepers in Waterville for awhile. Skibones

    keeping wet snow off crampons

I use WD-40 and it works fine. If someone knows something better I would be interested as well. Don't put those snowshoes away yet--it started snowing in Waterville Valley about two hours ago. Skibones

A BigDog you can kick with impunity

If you were to use Big Dog to carry you pack when doing your 48 four thousand footers --would it count?? I would love someone to carry my pack when hiking!!

    Skiing the John Sherburne trail

Rather than carrying skis, I would prefer to skin up but I was afraid of not sticking because of the post holed or rutted terrain on Tuckerman's trail. What do you think?

    Banff festival - New York City - March 4th & March 5th

Please let us know how you liked it. I was going to Lebanon last week to see it, but the road conditions were bad so, had to cancel.

NH Snow fall totals through 2/7/2008

In WAterville Valley it looks like we got another 6-8" last night. Anyone who wants powder skiing--today is the day. The winds are still blowing though and the lifts might be affected by that.

NH Snow fall totals through 2/7/2008

Yesterday at I X-C up to the Cascade Brook trail--it was the best. The snow was still stuck on the trees and the trail had the best coverage. Today I stayed at the north end of WV and again the trails were the best I've ever seen. Tuesday a bunch of us will try the Kanc Brook trail --can't...

Full Moon Light on Squam Lake, NH 01/21/08

You were wise to go out on Monday. We were planning to go on Tuesday night but the sky clouded up. I'm surprised it was so quiet--no animals howling?
