My wifes biggest confidence boost came when we hiked chocorua a few years back via liberty trail. It is a little longer than you said you wanted but it's pretty easy going and the views from the top and the ledges are awesome. :D

Any tips for asthma (exercise-induced )while hiking

I have the same problem, but I have found that if I strictly pace myself and use the inhaler "pre hike" I don't have as much difficulty. I don't know if you are new to hiking mountains or not, but when I was a rookie I had a problem pacing myself because I was too concerned with speed, which...

    Climbing little hills

I often hike Mt. Major. It's close and has a lot of interesting features that are similer to big mountains like relatively steep slabs, rock scrambles and nice loop routes with with the option to traverse a few other small hills. Decent mileage and great views!

    Mount Monadnock Conditions

I was up there on sunday and the conditions were good. The trail was mostly bare bootable, we put our crampons on at the last little treed in area near the summit, probably could have made it without but I would rather use gear than carry it. It was quite windy with alot of blowing snow. With...

    Favorite way down...

I use a swiss bob sled. You can get em at rei, ems, and campmor for about 25 bucks. I just strap it to the back of my pack with bungee cords for the way up and on the way down I put the poles away and just carry the sled. No one has ever said anything to me about sledding down hiking trails...
