    Breaking Your New Year Resolutions

I actually have kept my 2001 New Year's resolution to stop smoking (with the exception of the "once in a blue moon" cigar). However, I've been thinking about drinking less and going to the gym more. Sad to say, neither of these are too likely to happen. I prefer to enjoy my life! :D

Kinsmans via Mt Kinsman Tr -- 12/28/09

Applejack and I parked at the new trailhead and saw three other vehicles. We got a late (post 11a) start. I found the rerouted start of the trail less agreeable than the old start, but the parking situation is greatly improved. Shortly before reaching the sugar shack, we ran into Kevin, Judy and...

    Mt Cabot Trail

I agree with Roy in that this approach is the only reasonable option in winter for those of us with 2WD. Also, I think that it is not valid to say that usage of the trail is upsetting the "natives" as they use this trail as well. Every time I've been back there, I've been greeted by people with...

East Osceola & Osceola from the Kanc -- 12/26/09

Snowshoes not required to get to E. Osceola, though somewhat helpful on the steeper sections. Some traction required. Snow was somewhat loose, though one did not posthole wearing microspikes. Section between peaks was looser still. Snowshoes more helpful here, but still not a requirement.

    NW CT Off-season Camping???

We're basically looking to hit Frissell on our way back home from NYC. I've run down Mt Washington Rd before. Any idea how far it is to Sages Ravine?

    NW CT Off-season Camping???

My girlfriend and I will soon be in Northwest Connecticut for a little bit of hiking (Mt Frissell area) and are looking for a place to camp in that area. Any suggestions for this time of year?

    Garfield & Galehead Midweek

I'm planning on heading up Garfield and spending the night at the campsite up there this week. I'm sort of working on staying at all the different backcountry sites. The next day I'm planning to continue on to Galehead and head out on Gale River Trail. My plan is to head in on the Garfield...

A NEHHers First Trip to the ADKs!

So, for the Fourth of July Jen wanted to go to the Adirondacks. I was firmly against it as I'd been planning to finish my CAT3500s before ever going to the ADKs. I told her I'd only do it if Marcy was part of the plan as I'm working on state highpoints (sort of). She agreed that we'd do it on...

    Wildcats, a Different Way!

That is exactly the map I was using. It also has the old WODC camps on it too! Jen still has her two peaks remaining, Flume and Jefferson (where she plans to finish). Flume will come on 8/2.

    Wildcats, a Different Way!

We thought that maybe it was there, but all we saw was some refuse. Plus the map had it on the summit of E, so we thought that couldn't be it. Oh well...

Anyone use that "5 hour energy"

While I normally do dark chocolate covered espresso beans, I have used 5 hour energy before. It lives up to it's claims. It has about the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee and doesn't make you crash or anything. It's also low in sugar. I've found it useful to take before big races or...

    Wildcats, a Different Way!

So this TR is about a hike that happened a few weeks ago, but I've been away from the board so at least I'm back posting now. My girlfriend (Jen) wanted to climb the Wildcats for her birthday as they were two of the four peaks she needed toward her 48. I said sure and proceeded to try to make a...

Mud and Rainbows on Isolation 6/27

Thanks for posting the TR and making the trip so much fun! I was very glad we were able to do our hike in spite of the slightly damp conditions. ;) I'd never hiked over 8mi in Crocs before! I'll say this, of my rounds of doing the 48, this one had the most interesting completion! So glad I had...
