    Maine's East-West highway?

My guess would be that it ties into the top portion of 93 around Littleton, crosses the River on 93 and from ST J. follows Rt 2 to 89 in Montpelier. From there no clue.

    Mt. Washington question

Supposedly Mt Megantic is the only place you can see Mansfield, Washington and Katahdin.

    Vertigo moments

I usually do not have a problem when I am there, however the night after a steep/drop off encounter, I get sick just thinking about what could have been, especially if my family was there too.

Question for those who hike with thier dogs

I was looking into the skijjoring with my huskie a couple of years ago, but unfortunately he lost his eyesight to a genetic problem so didn't persue it. It looks like a lot of fun.

    Name yer Most Under-Rated Summit...

Mount Hunger, across the valley from Mansfield and great view of Camels Hump. Only time I was up it was a labor day weekend, the snow squall on top stopped just long enough to take in the views, snap 2 pictures and poof it was gone.

Arm, Thanks for the tip about the Ramblers Guide - I just ordered it as I am heading to Fort William in 2 weeks. I am planning on hiking the Ring of Steall and some stuff around Glen Coe.

    Peakbagging Vermont

Well, after all this Vermont talking earlier this week, we had to go there hiking today. Was planning on Blue Ridge near Rutland, but a late start had us changing to an old standby - Ascutney by way of the Brownsville Trail.

    Best hiking sunglasses?

I use B & L aviators with wrap arounds for two reasons. They never fall off and I've found that I don't take care of cheap ones so they last a month before i sit on them, because i pay alot (or Xmas present) I take better care and they last me 5-7 years. Sorry, i meant Ray-ban aviators.

    High Altitude Apples

I don't know about the Catskills, but in Vermont the mountains were cleared quite high for farming in the 1800's. I don't think it would not have been unusual to have apples planted high.

"You Can't get The-ah from he-ah!" or maybe "If I was goin' to the top of that mountain, I sure as hell wouldn't start he-ah" Sorry, couldn't resist.

    Peakbagging Vermont

Unnamed Telephone Gap I know as the ridge behind North Pond. I used to deer hunt there every fall, never got one and now I don't hunt. I did however see the funniest thing I have ever seen in the woods there. I was sitting eating lunch late November and heard a horrible crashing sound coming...

    Peakbagging Vermont

I am just blown away by this thread! I want to move back home right now. The swimming hole mentioned in the first section "Twenty Foot Hole"in Felchville, I've thought about almost every day for the past 32 years. I have a jagged 3 inch scar in the fleshy part of the palm where I fell when I...

I have also found that the Lanza book is the best for Vermont. It never leaves the jeep and I'm on my 2nd copy.

    Peakbagging Vermont

There is truely something different about Vermont (yes I'm biased - grew up there, family still there and hope to get back someday). I think it may have been Robert Frost that talked about the difference between the Whites (coiled up like a snake) and the Greens (laid out in nice neat rows)...

Yet another carry out in the Whites....

I can never remember which is Percival on the loop with Morgan, but the eastern most one has a rather difficult 15-20 foot climb over some rocks right near the top where any fall could easily break something.

    Tri-P north slide comparisons

Only problem my wife and I had on North Tri was a sheet of rock about 3 foot square, 1 inch thick peeled off when my wife stepped on it. I was 20 feet below and had to jump out of the way as it slid by. It went another 10 feet or so and smashed on a boulder. From then on, we stayed off line...

    Calories per hour?

The Cherry Garcia FF Frozen Yogert I just finished is 680 cal's per pint. I'm sure the regular is much, much more than that! Thanks for all the inputs everyone.

    Calories per hour?

While hiking South Peak of Mooselauke in the fog yesterday, my wife and I were discussing how many Cal's per hour are burned hiking. She is in need of maintaining weight or gaining, while I can always stand to loose some more. So can I afford the Ice Cream Sundie afterwords, and does she need...
