    Nettles

Thanks. It's when they get above the knees that they get real annoying  Tom - plan on doing a counterclockwise loop from Beaver Kill Parking lot to DubbelTop (:D), Graham and then to meet you guys at tower. Startin' early - hope to be at tower between 11 and noon. Feel free to join.

    Your predictions on Ice-out

I knew that was coming :o Keeping my fingers crossed. Just spoke with a ranger near the Saranacs...if the wind picks up, that might help with the flow of ice. Lake Flower is open I was told...its Upper and Middle I'm concerned about. Thanks again.

    Your predictions on Ice-out

Was thinking as an alternative the Oswegatchie and Five ponds maybe. Good wilderness experience there. That river ought to be open, right? Thanks.

    Your predictions on Ice-out

Thanks DSettahr, Any updates you can provide are really appreciated. In little over 1 week, I'm hoping to be paddling on the Saranac Lakes with friends. I'm starting to feel a little pessimistic.

    Your predictions on Ice-out

Been checking the weather and some webcams in the Adirondacks and waiting for ice-out. Anyone been paddling? Anyone see signs of liquid H2O out there? NWS predicts temps in the 60s this weekend for Saranac Lake. I say ice-out...hmmm...April 16th!

Really cool, thanks! It's always good to be reminded of what could happen in that type of situation.

    Book Recommendation

Finished it a few weeks ago...pretty interesting, thanks. I like the part about the isthmus (basically Central America) between North and South America and how it may support the theory that it's appearance caused the lastest ice age. Cool stuff. Keep the recs comming!

VFTT Shirts and Hats Market Survey and Pre-Ordering Information

Shirts would look cool I guess but would prefer cotton...way more comfortable. BTW, what color is the shirt?

    Fryin' pan.

So...you win some, you loose some. I received the MSR Quick Skillet in the mail the other day. Pros: lightweight. Cons: construction of skillet where talon handle connects to skillet seems weak, talon handle itself seems weak, no-stick surface seems like it will need babying while in...

    Fryin' pan.

Can't comment numerically on weight but I'll mostly be cooking potatoes and eggs in the fry pan. Will use for backpacking and paddling. I know the iron skillets really are great but looking for something a little more compact and lighter. Actually broke down last night and bought the MSR...

    Fryin' pan.

Hey'all, Looking for a good frying pan, teflon I guess. Around 7, 8 or 9 inches in diameter with folding or collapsible handle. Any good suggestions? MSR, GSI, etc?... Saw the MSR 7in. Quick skillet but wasn't crazy about the shape of it...might have to settle though. The GSI Pinnacle 8 inch...

    Waterproof Fanny Pack?

That's a good idea. Get a few small dry sacs and put them in the biggest fanny pack you can find.

Of trouts and trees - intentionally blocking streams

When I paddle for the first time each spring, I usually make sure I bring several sticks of dynamite for this reason. Why waste time cutting or chopping when I could simply light a fuse. Crazy stuff. The history there sounds interesting though. Would like to read more about it. Since...
