    "Essential" Adventure Documentaries?????

So is "Alone in the Wilderness" the same as "Into the Wild?" I found that interesting. And then there is the IMAX film "Everest" which is pretty cool. Of course there are some oldies but goodies out there: for example, a great documentary about Thor Heyerdahl the Norwegian explorer who built...

Chris Waddell (paraplegic) to summit Kilimanjaro

Even more impressive that his personal goal of reaching the summit unassisted is the way that he has used what happened to him to raise awareness of, and empathy for, different degrees of "ableness." It reminds me of how the late Christopher Reeve turned his personal tragedy into a way of doing...

    Alpinist Mag Closes

Is it possible that websites such as VFTT are filling a need that previously could only be met by magazines? Just wild speculation, but what do you think?

A New List! - Side-to-Side Hiking on the Long Trail

I'll get right on this... just as soon as I finish redlining every trail in the AMC White Mtn. Guide. :p

    Hunting Season Willies

Nevertheless... While I think all of the above sounds both true and wise, I nevertheless tend to stick to State Parks during hunting season. Taking even one bullet tends to ruin my whole day. :p

    Microspikes/Stabilicers

You can also find them at many park stores and lodges. For example, the last time I was at Monadnock, they had them at the park store. Also I saw them at the AMC lodge at Cardigan.

What boots do you use for winter backpacking?

I use a pair of Asolo TPS backpacking boots in winter. These are heavy summer boots, not winter boots, but since I go through a pair a year, I buy my new pair at the start of the winter season. That way the leather is unscuffed and takes the waterproofing well. I use a thick coating of...

When to take black and white?

Thanks I must say that I'm learning a lot from this thread, especially about using Photoshop to convert to B&W after the fact. Does Photoshop also allow you to do sepia tones?

Hordes and Helicopters on Mt. Monadnock

Patience is a virtue I agree with Klutz. I've overheard some of they interactions between "hikers" and the rangers at Monadnock. I'm not saying they're perfect but IMHO, they do a great job nearly all the time, put up with A LOT, and are vastly under-appreciated.

    Mt Washington Wedding

How often does this happen? So I was talking to someone the other day who told me that they just got married on the summit of Mt. Washington. So when I saw the title of this thread I thought, "Cool, this must be pictures from their wedding." But no, this is a different couple. Does anyone...
