I saw this thread over on Digital Grin with some cool images from a recent wedding on the summit of Mt. Washington. After the ceremony, the bride and groom proceeded to hike down--she still in her wedding gown:

Nice! Laurie and I got married on Whiteface last year, but we did not walk up or down. :D

Wow... really nice time and place to get married, great photos! Thanks for the link! :)

Wow. They clearly had special arrangements, too, to be able to be driven up in the auto road coaches before sunrise, and to have the ceremony itself in a space I don't even recognize - obs residential area?

Anyone know what the groom's uniform represents?

I believe they are USMC dress blues.

But... what's with this?? It's your wedding day and you are the manly groom and the BRIDE ends up carrying the backpack!!

LMAO!! Guess who will be wearing the pants??

Of course, the first reaction to this by the peakbagger in me was "it doesn't count" :D

Thanks for sharing.. :)

It is more likely that it is the Army's Mess Blue uniform. There is also a White version. And no the name doesn't imply what it says. :D As an NCO I never could afford a set so I can't be sure. But it is definetly not either the army or marines dress blues.

Well, she only had the backpack down low, he had it up high. They shared it!

(and I think it makes a better photo, the wedding dress with the backpack straps)

The town of Gorham's annual report lists marriages that occured in town over the last year and there are usually a few weddings listed for the top of Mt Washington and occasionally other mountains. Not sure if its a requirement to get the license in Gorham, but the summit of Mt Washington is a local call!.

I'm pretty sure its the Tip Top House.

What a cool idea! Nice shots, too.

How often does this happen?

So I was talking to someone the other day who told me that they just got married on the summit of Mt. Washington. So when I saw the title of this thread I thought, "Cool, this must be pictures from their wedding." But no, this is a different couple. Does anyone know how frequently people tie the knot (which I'm assuming is a bowline :p ) on the rock pile?

Here's a link to another recent Mt. Washington wedding - VFTT's very own MTNRUNR. Congratulations Fred and Donna!! :)

I got married on the Summit of Whiteface in August, neither we walked up OR down. Besides my new husband isn't a hiker and I didn't want a Divorce before the Marriage even began. :)

Beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing the link.

I believe you do have to get your license in the town you are actually married in in NH. (My marriage license lists where we were born, Maine and California, where we were living at the time of marriage, Alaska, and where we were married, Eaton, NH, all we were missing was Florida to cover the US!)

Too bad for the couple that the weather didn't cooperate for an outdoor sunrise wedding, since everyone got up so early for it. It would have been even more beautiful!

Hiking in a wedding dress, wow, I can see it now, first one to do all 48 wearing a wedding dress. Or how about getting married on each of the 48...

Good luck to the happy couple!

;)

Cool!

Definitely the Tip-Top House.

Anyone interested can call the Auto Road for info and arrangements. Actually quite a few people do it. My buddy Rockin' Rex did many years ago.

The summit is actually in Sargent's Purchase, but the nearest incorporated town that might actually have a town office where you could get a license is probably Gorham.
