Anyone interested in a VFTT outing to Monodnock ?

I'd be in Peakbagr!!.... Fall / Winter, either is fine. From a crowds standpoint the later the better. It's only 1.5 hours from my house woohoo no 3+ hour drive:-) I'd camp it there at the park.

    Zealand, Guyot, Bonds backpack..

Great weekend backpack with HarryK, Swamp and Bob.... Heading out early Sat AM under mostly sunny skies and warm temps our hope was for the conditions to continue. A nice roadwalk along Zealand, the river at an easy flow, great little "Brook Stops" along the way. Plenty of moose hoofprints...

    Big Kitty!

Very cool Bob!! I've been trying to get a decent pic of a couple of Cayote's that frequent our area almost daily. There out very early and seem to stay just far enough away to prevent a decent photo. I've nick named them "Willey" and "Shadow" as the names fit their ability stay out of...

Ike & Pierce / Tom & Field with the Better Half!

My "significantly better half" is a occasional hiker! We decided to head up to the Dry River CG on Monday 7/19 and do a couple of day hikes tues and wed. After a rainy night we woke to gray skies and a forecast calling form T storms in the am and pm with a mix of conditions in between. I had...

    Adams via Lowes Path 7/24

Great that the mountain was kind and allowed you to summit that day!! As always, an interesting report and great photos. I hope your luck is running my way... I've also been turned back twice by weather and wind on Adams both times in October. I figure an August trip to Jeff and Adams will...

Greylock- Not the Whites But...A nice Hike..

Unable to head north to the Whites this weekend, Mickey7 and i decided to hit the Greylock area early and do what i'll call a circumnavigation of most of the main peaks. Normally i wouldn't post a report as Greylock doesn't carry the "weight of a 4K" but the geography and layout of the...

    Coleman stove questions

I have an MSR Rapidfire (not sure they still make this). It's a cartridge stove and liiks just like the Whisperlight and have used it down into the low 20's. with good success but boil times are much longer. When the temps drop i use the Whisperlite. John, The whisperlite is a great stove...

1 pole, 2 poles, or no poles

I find i'm using them a bit less this year. Usually their on my pack when climbing and scrambling. If it's wet and slippery, stream crossings, or the decent is a steady "rock walk down" i'll break them out. I find i use them a bit more when packing with a full pack both climbing and...
