Thanks for sharing, Dave, and great photos. Very cool Lava Trees. I love hiking in Hawaii, though when I was there in 2003 we didn't have too much time to explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Our favorite hike was on Kauai, on the Na Pali coast. I can't wait to get back there someday! -katie

thanks for your comments... I grew up in this area and can't believe I haven't done more local exploration. It's about time! There are so many places to wander around in that don't require a multi-hour car ride, and for me, just "getting out there" is so much more important than the summits...

I climbed 5 NH 4000 footers this "official" winter season...my first sucessful winter peaks climbed since my first two ever in 2003. SInce this was my first winter really trying to get outside, I'm very happy with my progress. -katie ps--Carrigain on Jan. 7th was the most spectacular winter...
