    Hiking in Hawaii 3/18/06 - 3/24/06

Thanks for sharing, Dave, and great photos. Very cool Lava Trees. I love hiking in Hawaii, though when I was there in 2003 we didn't have too much time to explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Our favorite hike was on Kauai, on the Na Pali coast. I can't wait to get back there someday! -katie

    wandering on willard

On Saturday April 1st, I took a nice mellow hike up Mt. Willard with six friends, all women who are fellow team leaders for our upcoming Wilderness Heals hike. On the whole, the day was rainy and not too cold, but just before we headed out the skies looked relatively promising. The trail started...

When all you need is a blue hill or two

thanks for your comments... I grew up in this area and can't believe I haven't done more local exploration. It's about time! There are so many places to wander around in that don't require a multi-hour car ride, and for me, just "getting out there" is so much more important than the summits...

When all you need is a blue hill or two

Bob, thanks for the offer, I'll keep that in mind! High Horse, No, I can't be positive about what he meant by what he said, but it sure did make me think a bit! From the rest of my conversation with him, I think he was just commenting on me hiking alone, not me hiking in the Blue Hills...

When all you need is a blue hill or two

Peter, a trail leading out of your own backyard? My dream!! Chip, local hikes sure are great...I've changed my attitude from "well, I can't get up to the Whites this weekend, I guess I'll settle for the Blue Hills" to "wow, I can't wait to get back to the Blue Hills and explore!" :) snowbird...

When all you need is a blue hill or two

Throughout the week I had planned to take a hike in the Blue Hills on Saturday, to at least get a little hike in on a weekend I couldn’t get up north. But alas, the hike was not to happen…my week had been crazy and sleep won out—by the time I got out of bed, ate “breakfast” and felt awake...

A Lonesome Lake and Cannon adventure

Back in early January I was looking at my calendar and thought how nice it would be to spend the last “official” winter weekend up in NH staying in a hut and hitting some nearby peaks. I picked Lonesome Lake hut for this adventure, and the participants were to be Poison Ivy (Amy) and her...

An open letter to a very nice woman

I loved reading this, thanks for sharing. Really makes me grateful to be part of a hiking comunity filled with so many wonderful, kind...
