After reviewing my spreadsheets, databases, notes and other sources I was finally able to tally all the peaks I climbed this winter. A grand total of 3 4K footers.

Since this was my first winter of bagging peaks it's a 100% increase over last winter.

I'd like to think the quality of peaks climbs was much higher than the quantity.

Washington Attempt from Dry River
Washington summit Via Huntingtons

Gothics, Tabletop, Phelps

Kind of a slow winter I guess. I was supposed to go for Washington again this weekend via Tucks, but the new baby is due any minute.

I got in 33 days of hiking this winter for a total of 54 peaks (52 in New Hampshire and 2 in Maine).

Negative 1 for me

Lucky you: that's 54 more peaks than I did. 55 actually.

I hiked all 48 peaks of the White Mountain 4000 footers. (I guess there may have been a couple more that were in the way - do they count?) :)
I guess it's up to you to decide. The original question was: "How Many Mountains Did You Climb?" -- I wonder if he meant "How many peaks did you climb?" because for instance, North and South Hancock are 2 peaks on 1 mountain (that has at least 7 individual peaks on it). You probably passed Middle Hancock to get between North and South Peak. Counting Middle Hancock will simply be based on what your definition of a "peak" is. In my books, a peak is a peak regardless of col depth. Mt. Adams is a Peak on Mt. Washington as far as I'm concerned. Mt. Washington is a mountain. Hancock is a mountain. South Hancock is a peak on Hancock. Bond is a peak on Twin Moutain. But I guess you (or anyone) can see it however way you want.

FWIW, there are 15 4000'ers with >1000' prominence:

Washington - 6148' (highest prominence east of Mississippi River)
Lafayette - 3320'
Moosilauke - 2932'
Carter Dome - 2821'
Cabot - 2660'
Kinsman - 2398'
Carrigain - 2223'
Osceola - 2000'
Tecumseh - 1723'
Field - 1682'
South Twin - 1502'
Tripyramid - 1360'
Waumbek - 1289'
Hancock - 1200'
Wildcat - 1034'

None, zero, nothing at all. Had no motivation to hike, but I did run 408 miles........ Including 13 miles in the Whites on a 60 degree day in January! :D :D :D

And I did buy snowshoes that are still in the box- not sure if that counts! :) :) :D :p I'll make up for my total laziness this year.........

Correct. I wasn't trying to start a peakbagger / what-counts-as-a-peak? debate.

When I said " Count anything that has a name! ", I meant if you climbed a 2000' peak in Massachusetts, cool! If you want to count all 7 Hancocks, fine. Whatever is significant to you is what's important. And if you want to count Mt. Royal 50 times, go for it!

Tom! That's the risk you take when you have lying nutjobs like myself on this site and you post a thread! :D :D :D

PS. I could start in with the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle you know!

I climbed 5 NH 4000 footers this "official" winter season...my first sucessful winter peaks climbed since my first two ever in 2003. SInce this was my first winter really trying to get outside, I'm very happy with my progress.

ps--Carrigain on Jan. 7th was the most spectacular winter hike, weather and views-wise, by far!!

I figure I did 32 named peaks, 25 of which were NH 4Ks (including Madison, Adams, Washington, and Monroe).

I also had one failed attempt on Cabot, a couple of fun whacks to interesting spots in the woods, and a whopping 1 new peak, Avalon (which I had passed by on an earlier hike of the loop).

Pretty fair for my first full winter of hiking, especially considering I did a couple of Dr. Wu's negative hikes! :p

Peaks, Mountains, Molehills...I'm confused, har, har, har

I, myself, am working on NEHH in "winter" solo...off "the list" :p

Sooo...this past winter I was fortunate to "summit" the following on my list:
East & Osceloa 1-7-06 Beautiful sunny day, 1st time using crampons
Field & Willey 1-16-06 Overcast
PaTN 1-28-06 Beautiful sunny day Barebooted
Camel's Hump 1-29-06 Overcast but w/decent views
Vose Spur 2-4-06 Beautiful day, neat looking @ Signal Ridge from the slide, barebooted the steep
South & North Crocker 3-4-06 Snow storm up top, crampons down S. slide
Redington 3-5-06 Beautiful sunny day, very easy if you know the way!
Abraham 3-6-06 Beautiful sunny day...outstanding last half mile! Crampons for sure!
South & North Hancock 3-18-06 Nice day, clouding up throughout, crampons except @ very beginning/end

Have solo'd 68 and done Wilson with a friend. Dreading Baxter as I don't "camp" out!!! Just have to get into wicked shape and do them as day trips  Just call me "Dream Dog" :p

Congratulations to all for getting out and staying active ;)

what's winter? if you mean the rigid between the equinox and solstice (or is it the other way around?), then I only did one and it's a 2k and it barely had any ice or snow on it since it was 2 weeks ago.

but if you use a broader definition, then I did 5 before "official" winter in wintry conditions.

why so little? don't blame me. blame work and illness and family and etc.

zilch, none,

......nada  (and next week I'm gonna go whack something or other. i guess if it kills me i'll leave happy) :D :D :D

14 of the ADK 46: Giant, Rocky Peak, Colvin, Blake, Gothics, Armstrong, Seymour, Marshall, Couchie, Santanoni, Panther, Skylight, Gray, and Saddleback.

Just 1, Street Mountain on New Years Eve, which was also the only new ADK 46’er I hiked in 2005. Things have been so busy, that winter just flew by me.
