My Garmin Forerunner...I can set the pace and see if I am staying ahead of the little "cyber hiker." Hey SherpaK...if you want to add some more weight to your pack, I see Campmoor has a "Tent Fan" in their latest catalog! :D

White Mtn Nat Forest Trailhead parking options!

Since my wife is permanently disabled (multiple sclerosis), she was able to obtain a Golden Access Passport. It is free and is good for her lifetime. It covers her and anyone in the same non-commercial vehicle. The pass is valid at Federal entrance fee areas. We picked it up at the Skyline...

    Excercise Poll...

Yep, I'll be there for the "biggie"...I'm hoping by that time the length of the run will only kill me a little bit. I can handle the swim and bike, but have never run more than 6 miles. Lotsa training to come this summer. My goal is to be able to do a full Ironman by next summer, Yikes! Max

    Excercise Poll...

Every day without fail. Hiking whenever I get a chance, usually on weekends, the rest of the time is divided between running, biking, weight training. I'm preparing for the summer triathlon series in New England, trying to peak for the Timberman 1/2 Ironman in NH on August 22nd. Max

    Mount Washington

Another great trip, and perfect weather. Thanks go to Dr. Seema for putting in the order for sunshine and light winds. And for the organization that got us all together. 2 more off my winter list (41 & 42), a successful day, even though my windpants came out the loser in a confrontation with...

    The Battle of Lexington

After a month of planning, and then a morning of preparations, my wife Patti and I loaded up the Tracker, and set forth to battle the forces of evil (e.g. the eastbound traffic on Massachusetts Rt. 2). An hour later, after a 50 mile slog, we finally arrived in Lexington and celebrated the...

Re: Gee. That can be as dangerous as crossing the Khumbu icefall...a 350 lb. woman in pink stretch pants could induce symptoms of cerebral edema in the best of us. You're a strong man Fitz! :D

    Mt. Pierce Jan. 24th

Yes it sure was drifted on the summit Michael. I had been there in October and had stood at the summit cairn, but this past weekend I thought for a moment that it looked like the scrub area off to the west was higher ground. Silly me, it was only the heavy drifts that made it appear that way...

    Mt. Pierce Jan. 24th

Carole and I had a brisk but enjoyable day doing this relatively easy climb from Crawford Notch on Saturday morning. Neither of us had a thermometer, but best guess was around -10 or so at the parking lot when we left at 8:00 AM. For the most part, enough traffic had been on the Crawford Path...

    "Boston" Potluck at Pat & Audrey's 2/28

Patti and I can probably make it. I'm on a schedule to finish my NH winter 4-K's, so I'll try and save something easy (Tecumseh?) for that day so I can make it to your place in time. Max

    Stupid People

While building a cairn above treeline on the Red Spot trail on Mt. Monadnock, I had a woman approach me and ask if I was building a barbecue. And once from the Monadnock summit I had a gentleman ask me if it were possible to see Everest from here. I replied "Not today, it's a bit too hazy."

Fun on Flume (and Liberty) 1/4/2003

Our group arrived at the junction of Flume Slide trail at 10:30 and I had wandered down the slide trail a few yards and scratched a time in the snow in case Arm and Cantdog happened to be coming by. So that put us on the summit of Flume at about 10:35 or so. We stayed about 15-20 minutes...

Mt Waumbek- THEY DID IT 1-06-04

Yup, what everyone else said...truly amazing. And I think they picked a good winter to make the attempt, with the snow conditions being ideal for fast travel in many cases, and the bitter cold not being an issue either. Surely this record will stand until the Sox win the Series...you 2 should...

    Camera found on Osseo Trail

I've sent Kevin an email asking him if its his...no reply so far. Also, on the original photo, the plate number on the Subaru is perfectly readable. Not sure it was a guaranteel that the vehicle was owned by a member of the group, but if all else fails here in the next few days, I will contact...

    Camera found on Osseo Trail

Our group stumbled across a camera (thanks Jaytrek) on the Osseo Trail (Mt. Flume in NH) on Sunday, January 4th. If you lost it, please e-mail me describing the model of the camera and let me now how to return it to you. There are some pictures on the memory chip, and I'll download them in an...

    Hancocks 1/1/04

Garry G, Chomp and I went in and out in around 4-1/2 hours, we did not use crampons or snowshoes. We went up the south peak and descended the north. The brook crossings are all quite simple, though Garry did manage to make an adventure out of one of them! We really need some more snow to make...
