Hi Neil, I snow shoed the highway up to the 1st hairpin turn on Wednesday and the conditions were good. At about 1.5 miles up the snow was not deep and the crampons on the shoes sometimes hit the road. You could still see the track from people that headed over to Esther. Have a good trip. Mark

From the little bit of reading that I have done on the Cog it did say that they went to the state for permission. If they were given the land with the same stipulations as the Mt. Washington toll road they may not be able to keep hikers from parking.

Hi Fred, I use VBL’s in my shoes for multi day winter trips (I tend to have warm feet). I put them over liner socks and then my warm socks over the VBL’s. I find that real VBL’s do not make your foot slide as much as baggies. I also use a VBL for my sleeping bag. Thin PolyPro underwear...
