Family piece in the NYT on bringing kids to NH to see moose

Better hurry before they're gone! I ran into one while riding my horse 3 yrs ago. The horse went one way and I went the other, fracturing my hip. It had a nice rack though....

any problems with a yard Woodchuck?

I've got a bunch that have tore up my field real good. I wonder if that is what is killing my lilac tree? (Eating roots maybe?) I try to deal with it since I don't have a vegetable garden but I do worry about the holes and my horses breaking their legs in them.

    Foliage Report

We hiked skookumchuck to north Lafayette and below the red maples were peaking and falling off the trees along with birches. Things appeared in full color up there today. Beautiful!

    NY Times story on Millinocket

That sounds eerily familiar to the lower cascade mill in berlin that is trying to make a go of it but is open infrequently it appears due to lack of work. Sad for the people in Millinocket given how far north it is. They would likely have to retrain or move I would guess.

You know might be addicted to hiking...

When your entire bookcase is dedicated to hiking guide books, your always late for work because you just want to check out one more trail on a map, read one more post on a forum, etc. and when you own more hiking boots and clothes than work shoes or clothes and you have to dig to the bottom of...

topo map survey - Need your input

Hey neat thread: Ok 1) I usually carry map in my pocket for quick reference, and sometimes in my pack, never in my car unless I forgot  2) 4x7 because the more info the better IMHO. A year ago I purchased the new larger AMC maps at the Mtn. Wanderer and surprisingly I am quite happy...

    NY Times story on Millinocket

I wasn't saying it as a negative, but I will add that a lot of the prison workers bought housing outside of berlin, that the downtown businesses continue to struggle, given that there are empty blocks, and burned out buildings. It appears that Gorham is probably benefiting more from the atv...

    NY Times story on Millinocket

I guess they should try Berlin ' strategy, a massive landfill that takes everyone's garbage, a humongous atv park, throw in some snowmobiles a motel or campground, biomass plant, hydrostation, 2 prisons and they'll be fine.

    NH Bike Week has started

When I drove up tripoli rd on Saturday there was a long line of cars at the Osceola parking lot. FWIW my laconia connections said it was unusually quiet in town to their surprise.

    NH Bike Week has started

The news made it sound like there was quite a crowd, but the busiest day seemed like Sunday when they were all leaving and even that didn't seem as bad as some years. They're already talking about the 100th anniversery. I'll be sure to be out if new England that year.

I think so far it is fairly quiet for some strange reason. I am sure as the weekend gets closer volume will pick up.

    "The Bulkhead"

Interesting, my husband being a rock climber would be all for that. I went part way and got a good view of Kearsarge, but gave up when it went on and on. Apparently it is marked.
