    Pharaoh Lake Mill Brook Trailhead

The trail is mostly flat and pretty wide. I don't think you will have too much trouble carting your yak in there. There are a few spots where there are some good-sized rocks in the trail, but I think maneuvering around them shouldn't be a problem. The only other thing that might pose a...

    Which digital SLR for landscapes?

I think most (at least the E-330 & E-500) of the Olympus DSLR’s can us both xD and compact flash media cards.

    Slides

I believe the last major slide(s) in the Adirondacks were in the fall of 1999 caused by Hurricane Floyd Most notably the Mount Colden slide that partially filled in Avalanche Pass.

Top 8 hikes in the NE??

Seeing as most of my hiking experience is in the Adirondacks, I don’t feel I’ve hiked enough in the other regions to come up with a list for them. With that, this is my Adirondack list. These hikes range from shorter dayhikes to multiple day backpacking trips. They are listed in no particular...

Top 8 hikes in the NE??

How come the Adirondacks have been excluded? Is it maybe because the AMC isn’t involved with any of the trails there?

    Mooseland Grill

If that's the case. I wouldn't expect any kind of construction until late summer or early fall at the earliest, more than likely not until next year.

    Mooseland Grill

I would still give it more time. I can't speak for NH, but I know construction for my firms jobs in the Adirondacks have not started yet. We are still waiting for the frost to get completely out of the ground and mud season to end. Spring is a tough time to do construction in the mountains...

    Mooseland Grill

I forget when exactly did it burn down? The reason I ask is it often takes a while for things to get moving. If the owners were planning to rebuild, they probably had to wait for things like getting the insurance money, finding an architect to design the new building, the time for the building...

    Treadway Mountain, Adirondacks, NY

I'm not 100% sure of this but I think there is a designated campsite directly across Clear Pond from the lean-to.

    Treadway Mountain, Adirondacks, NY

There is also a lean-to on Clear Pond. Treadway Mountain has got to have one of the best view to hiking effort ratios in the entire Adirondack Park.

does advantix work on deer ticks

Just to remind everyone, there is a vaccine for cats and dogs for lyme. I’d highly recommend getting the shot for our 4-legged friends.

    Never again!.......?

I have vowed to never climb the Scenic Trail on Sawteeth in winter ever again. I plan to climb the mountain again, but just not that route in winter conditions. There's a reason no body takes that route in winter, unfortunately I learned the reason the hard way.

    Bad hiking gear purchase.

Merrel Eagle III boots. I had the original model of this boot, which I walked the Vibram soles flat on. I replaced them with the updated model because the old model was no longer made. After the first couple of months I noticed the soles were staring to separate from the leather. I...

Water filters and treatment discussion..Part 1, source and filters.

Very good point, but doesn't it also stand to reason that there are far more people in the backcountry than there used to be which in turn would increase the chance that water could become contaminated? I’m not sure what the answer is, but I plan to keep on treating my water as I have in the past.

Do you talk on a cell phone while hiking?

I’ll admit it, I was one of those people that was on my cell phone on a mountain summit with the conversation starting with, “Guess where I’m calling you from?” It lost its novelty after the first couple of times. Now I rarely even carry a cell phone with me when I hike.

Pennsy Finishes the 48 during hiking extravaganza

Way to go Pennsy. What's the next list to get completed? I know he doesn't have many of the ADK 46 left.
