    What happens in Vegas...

Beyond Vegas... I just got back from that area too. Really gorgeous (besides LV, which I don;t like much)! We went to Bryce and then mainly Zion. Some photos here--note that you don't need to be a member of FaceBook to view: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=180895&id=647681968&l=ebe0a0667e

    Summer Hiking Goals

Summer 2010--a few goals... 1. I need to finish up my "96," ie second time around on the 48. I did my 48 the first time more than 10 years ago, within two years. Since then I've done many peaks repeated times, but can't quite seem to finish doing ALL of them at least twice. Still left are the...

    Equinox Peakbagging

spring starts on 3/20 correct? doesn't that mean you would need to be done BEFORE sunrise on 3/20? Meaning do the hike on the 19th? I'm not quite sure of the guidelines here...

    goggle recommendations

rose-colored glasses Thanks for the fast response Audrey. An added benefit of rose colored glasses--maybe they make everything seem a bit....cheerier and optimistic? ; )

    goggle recommendations

I did a little search on the forums here but wasn't able to get to too many specifics. I'm looking for recommendations for goggles for use on above-treeline hikes in blowy conditions. Are there certain brands that run narrower? Or have women's (smaller) sizes? Do you all wear ski goggles...

    Greeley Ponds

Greeley and East Pond Hi--I was up there last Saturday morning. Parking lot to Greeley was full of people so I went down to East Pond trail/trailhead. There was a TON of snow there, so much I couldn't really make out the trail itself and had to turn back. I think there is even more snow at...

North and South Hancock via Hancock Notch, Cedar Brook and Hancock Loop 1/16/10

Date of Hike: 1/16/10 Trail Conditions: Mostly well-packed snow, but lots of it and deeper drifts once we got up to the ridge...I expected much less snow, since no major storms the past 2 weeks, but there was plenty left. Special Equipment Required: Saw some people barebooting it, but we had...

condistions on the Lower Nanamocomuck Ski trail

encouragement for listing ski trail condix here... Happy Hiker, thanks for the first hand tips--very good to have this info. I don't know of another forur focused on ski trail conditions. It does always seem rather a crapshoot on what you'll get. The exception of course is getting out there...

condistions on the Lower Nanamocomuck Ski trail

Has anybody been skiing on this trail lately? Trailhead about 6 miles from the Conway end of the Kanc. If so, can you speak to the conditions on the trail, or in the area? I've never been on this trail--any overall comments on it would be helpful--level of difficulty, size of parking lot, etc...

Nineteen Mile Brook Parking - No Parking Pass

be careful though--could still be towed Just a reminder--even if passes are not required, if you park on 16 itself (if the parking lot is full, e.g.) and you are blocking the plowing efforts on 16, your car could still be towed, and it's a long walk to Gorham...

    Hit or Miss? Snow 12/20/09

Come down to the city to ski At least 10 inches of fluffy new powder here in Cambridge==20 degrees, green wax. I already took one jaunt out to get coffee, skiing on the roads before the plows and cars ruined it. There will still be lots of great urban-ish skiing left for this afternoon too...

Sandwich Mtn via Smarts Brook Trail and Sandwich Mtn Trail (11/28)

Nice hike despite a rainy start. Chose this hike because it was sheltered. Even so, the wind was taking trees down--quite strong when it gusted. Trail conditions: Wet and mucky lower down, for probably the first 3 miles of the trail. Past the Sandwich wilderness marker you'll start to see...

    plastic boots

plastics, redux Just to chime in, you cannot beat plastics for warmth in the winter. If you have poor circulation and get cold easily, both true for me, you will likely see that you can actually enjoy winter hiking/climbing without worrying about freezing your feet. Note, for women: I have an...

Bond, West Bond via Zealand, Twinway, Bondcliff 8/9/09

Sunday Aug 9, 2009 Trail Conditions: Surprisingly dry pretty much throughout--a big difference from recent reports of ghastly mud (I guess having no rain last week let things dry out. Patches of mud on around Zeacliff, but basically not much at all. Warm day, not too many bugs, though. Special...

a trip to Zeacliff and a question

also makes a great XC ski route Since there is so little elevation gain out to Thoreau Falls and beyond, it makes for a gorgeous XC ski route into some lovely areas. Don't forget the extra distance since you need to ski in on the access road in winter, but all worth it. You really do feel...

The end of a long journey

That's great Mohammed! I am so glad to read of your steady recovery. Very good news, and keep it up. I'm sure you don't remember me but I was on an AMC trip with you on Cabot-- a winter hike and I think my first winter 4000 footer. It was so long ago--Feb 99--that we could still park in that...
