    Non-MMG Peaks

Black Nubble might as well be. An ATV trail that goes close to the top and a herd path/trail for the last few yards to the summit.

    Maine Photo Quiz

#5 looks like Kibby West Kennebago is also a good guess but I haven't been there since 2000 and I don't remember it that well. Guess I need to go back and get the North Peak while I'm there. :D

Auburn/Lewiston Maine area - place to stay?

I pass by the Sleepy Time everytime I go towards N Conway-Kanc. I have never stayed there cause, heck it's only 11 miles from my house. Michael J's report confirms my suspicions that it's a good place to stay. There are a couple of places to eat ( Subway, Dunkin Donuts, Chinese) close by as well.

    Mt. Tecumseh 2/23/08

I did this peak today (Sun.) I actually found easier traction with my snowshoes in the snowboard area than I did further up on the trail. Took a couple of spills and butt slid for a while. :o It looked like a snowboard or 2 continued down the hiking trail all the way to the parking lot. While...

    7 Habits for Happy Hiking.

Thanks for the humor Neil. I needed that. My post was intended more so to poke fun at myself and certainly not intended to flame anyone who I have hiked with in the past. All of whom are great guys who have taught me a lot. We are just not hiking on the same mountain ranges at this point. I'll...

    7 Habits for Happy Hiking.

#7 can be a hard pill to swallow. You get preached at constantly to not go alone but if you haven't connected with someone at your level/pace then what do you do? I for one am certainly not going to stay home. I have gone with lots of people in the past but am always the slow one and I usually...

    GoogleEarth Screenshot Quiz

I'll take a wild stab on #10. Passaconaway with Whiteface in back and the Downes Brook Valley in the foreground right.

    Add 'em up!

My very modest accomplishments for 2007: 71 New Eng. 3K's. Goal was 50 43 NH, 27 ME, 1 VT 35 Bushwhacks- 14 Solo Still learning everytime I go out. Thanks to all who put up with me! Happy flipping the calendar over. Jim

    3k Finishers

An obvious point that I missed: No one has finished in Winter!

    3k Finishers

A couple of observations: I assume that the Blue the Paisleys and Anne Gwynne finished on was Mt. Blue as opposed to Old Blue. Roy Schweiker is the only person to finish 3 lists at once. (4k, HH, 3K) So far. Jim, will you be informing the group as others finish?

    Paugus and South Paugus summits

I went to the true summit on May 13 this year. I found no herd paths. The woods are of medium thickness better than I expected. No views at all. You will see a somewhat cleared area off to you left (West) I avoided it because it looked like 6-8' spruce were reclaiming it and probably had...

11/24 West Bear (3290') and East Bear (3041')

We never found the "Jim C" jar. We hung a new jar a little south of the big clearing on a bump that seemed as high as any other. The 4 of us looked all over the top of that peak- 3 veteran jar finders plus me :o and found nothing. That was a fantastic view, one that non-bushwhackers will never...

    North Brother failed attempt

A great report, you must have seen my note, just what I was looking for. :D I probably could have done that on Sunday, like you said the Traveler loop was a great warmup but my wife is complaining about not seeing me enough. :D I'm still suprised you didn't pass me on the Travelers. Hope to...

30th Anniversary of Inn at Long Trail

Sounds like a lot of fun. I wish I could be there but am unable to. This was by far my favorite place to stay on the AT and then again on the LT.

    2 Oxbow's and a Bottle 7/28/07

Despite the ominous weather forecast Sadie the dog and I headed North to do these remote Maine 3k's that I've waited a long time to do. Road conditions are generally good except for the stretch of Wiggle Brook Road between the 2 Cupsuptic Pond Roads. Still it was passable and I made it to the...

    Rump Mtn survey marker

I was with Papa Bear last October on this peak. There were two bumps of nearly equal height and we found 2 jars and a 3rd broken one on a tree on the more easterly bump. He dug around the tree quite a bit but no marker. I think he started digging a little on the westerly bump before I found the...

    Carr Mtn Tr western side

First hand no, but when I was on top of Carr on May 6 I met 2 guys who barebooted and postholed up the westside. They reported some trouble finding the trail but they did make it. I think the worst areas they said were after the snowline which was about 2900' at the time. Jim

The Beaudry Six Pack and around the Rounds 6/30-7/1

Mark did a trail conditions report on our trip but I will add some observations here. Day 1 Mark, Phil, Dave and myself met in Stratton at 7 AM and took all 4 cars up to the West Branch Road. Our plan was to camp Sat. night but all the good sites were taken. So we drove in the West Branch...

Six trails and two bushwhacks to bag Clay and Washington

Might have been me, I left Edmands Parking lot at about 3:15 and drove out Mt Clinton to 302. Maine car with VFTT sticker.
