    It's not a Direttissima, it's a Delicatessen 9/14-9/28/2024

I'm glad it got the wheels turning for you! I did an out and back on the middle section of Rocky Branch Trail yesterday, and while taking a break near the junction with Isolation East, thought about how few Isolation peakbaggers ever considered what I'd just come up, as I didn't see a soul on my...

    Hiking Moat Mountains to Attitash

Haven't done it myself, but can't see a reason not to. As the saying goes, you won't know until you go. That ~1 mile (and 1300') could be good, could be bad. Look at the data available to you (LIDAR, topo maps, aerial photography), and if it still looks easy, do it. Hell, even if it looks less...

    It's not a Direttissima, it's a Delicatessen 9/14-9/28/2024

Delicatessen; a German loanword which first appeared in English in the late 19th century, the plural of Delikatesse. The German form was lent from the French délicatesse, which itself was lent from Italian delicatezza, from delicato, of which the root word is the Latin adjective delicatus...

    Redlining racist?

I don't know. I'd think that any new finishers, would get the new version of the patch and certificate, whenever those will be forthcoming. As far as replacing patches/certificates of past finishers, hard to say. I know I personally have two certificates, and am proud of what I accomplished, no...

    Redlining racist?

As the admin of the White Mountains Red-lining Facebook group, I had a discussion thread up about this very topic for a few days, before shutting it down. Here is a link to the thread, publicly viewable. It will become private the afternoon of March 5, so peruse while you can. I've decided to...

    Heel blister problem

Here are the two things that have worked for me: 1.) Leukotape It's a god-send for those of us who are blister prone, and while it may not prevent all discomfort, it should prevent blistering. Definitely apply it to problem areas before heading out for a hike, preferably on clean and dry skin...

    Your NE67 Finish

Finished on Mansfield this past October with my buddy Mike. I don't think I could have made the finish any more epic if I tried... reaching the summit ~200 miles into a northbound Long Trail thru-hike. Wouldn't change a thing! :D

    Bill Robichaud. "RED-LINER" #29

Thanks everyone, it was a most excellent journey. I look forward to many more miles of hiking in my favorite places, without "needing" anything, other than the hike. ;)

    Rocky Branch trail work?

I think we'll see the same thing as we did with Dry River Trail last year. Believe me, I'm itching to get that section too!

    Grafton Notch, ME?

Did the loop clockwise last Thursday-Saturday (6/11-6/13), from the southern trailhead. Found the west side to be in excellent shape, well blazed with signs of recent trail-work in evidence. Stayed the first night at Bull Brook, and found ourselves inundated by black flies. All the tentsites on...

    Skiing Isolation?

So, both Mike (NH Tramper) and myself, have just Isolation left to finish our respective Winter 48 lists, and I'm wondering if the route up from 16 is skiable? Of the two times I've done Isolation, one was an out and back from Glen Boulder, and the other was a traverse up Davis from 302, exiting...

    WMNF Forest Road Status

Should have checked before I left the house, but found out the hard way that Evans Notch Road (ME 113) is closed, as of 11/12.

    Anyone Use Mountain-Forecast.com?

I use Mountain-Forecast frequently. I've found their forecasts to be pretty spot on, agreeing with not only the MWOBS, but the NWS point forecasts. The only issue I have, is that many lesser peaks in the Whites aren't in their database (yet), though with a little extrapolation with data from...

    Baxter State Park Questions

There's no reason that I can think of, that you wouldn't want to stay at Nesowadnehunk. I've stayed in the park three times, all there, and enjoyed the quiet immensely. I can't speak for the other campgrounds, but Nesowadnehunk is awesome. Plus, I like typing it, and saying it... Nesowadnehunk. :)
