Route - Blue trail from the Garden over the Brothers to Big Slide, then to Yard Mountain, returning via Black Brook Trail to JBL and Phelps Trail.
Trail Conditions - mostly dry, virtually no snow, no mud except for a short stretch between the third Brother and Big Slide where the remnants of the snow spine made footing precarious. Trail was blocked by downed trees in 5 or six places, mostly beyond Big Slide. The trail over Yard Mountain is very nice, noticeably less worn and eroded, probably due to Yard Mountain not being one of the 46 even though it is over 4,000 feet.
Special equipment - none needed, didn't even use rain gear.
Comments - the Garden parking lot was half full when I left at 5:30 AM but no one was around, saw no other hikers the entire trip. Great views, no bugs. Weather started out crisp, clear, sunny, becoming quite warm by afternoon, a beautiful day in the Adirondacks which lasted until 3:00 PM, just one hour after I finished, when black clouds and drizzle moved in.
